I just started On Writing. I needed something short that I could read between now and TBR Toppler. I didn't want to December 6 because then I wouldn't be eligible for the cover to cover certificate. And I couldn't start The Snow Whale because it's for the December challenge and can't be started until tomorrow. I had to read something!

I have just begun The Hummingbird's Daughter in the audio format. I am trying to learn to like audios...... and I find the topic of this book interesting. Although it is a novel, it is based on a true woman and a real place.

I just finsihed my first audio A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Yes, I did enjoy it but I felt that it is primarily written for a young adult audience.OK, maybe also for those adults that want to reminisce. I felt that it was tring too bluntly to convey a message. I didn't feel it engaged me as it did when I was a child. I absolutely adored the book when I was in the pre-teens. The only other book that I can recall rereading is To Kill a Mockingbird. Now that has always been for me, and it still remains, a five star book, the second reading being almost fifty years after the first. I will stick in here my review of that too: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/....

I hope that you will grow to love audiobooks. It may take that one book or narrator that will sell you. One of the audiobooks that I loved was A Prayer for Owen Meany narrated by Joe Barrett.

I am really enjoying On Writing. I'm chuckling my way through it. My husband keeps getting his television programs interrupted while I read portions to him.

I'm reading On the Street Where You Live for a group challenge, and 24 Hours because I started it to see if I would like it,and I do! lol I've got too many TBR books and I'm weeding them out.

I am reading Saints Astray by Jacqueline Carey. It is the sequel to Santa Olivia which I loved. The fact is I have loved almost everything by Jacqueline Carey. Because my eyes tire easily I usually get an audio version to help me along. Audible has most of Carey's novels, so I wait until I have saved up a credit or two and buy them. Then I read them on my Kindle or Android Tablet with the audio playing.

I started reading The Maze Runner because my middle school students are all reading it and I try to keep up with what they are into so I can discuss the books and recommend them to other students. I'm totally hooked and have started The Scorch Trials and will have The Death Cure waiting. I'm listening to them on audiobook but had to get a copy of the first one because I couldn't wait to finish listening to it.

I read about a couple of these 24 hr challenges you guys have put on here, it made me give myself a challenge :) I'm hoping to read just a little over 1000 pages by next weekend. Finish Ghost Girl, read Beautiful Child an hoping to get to Sybil. Has anyone read Sybil.....? Im looking for some input on it. it looks like a pretty intense book.. any opinions?

I've heard the same thing that Anne did. It was on the news sometime this fall that the story wasn't actually real. I never heard any more details than that. You may find out more googling it.

I googled it with mixed results. Maybe she made it up, maybe she didn't. But there are people out there with multiple personality disorder and it's a good story, so.......

I read it many years ago as well as The Three Faces of Eve which is a similar story. I was fascinated with the subject.

Enjoy the Harry Potter. In my estimation, the series gets better and better as it progresses. The final few are wonderful.

I'm Finishing up A Lesson in Secrets and just starting Jo Walton's Among Others. I loved Walton's alternative history of post WWII Britain that began with Farthing so I've decided to try one of her sci fi/fantasy novels. This is her most recent.

I remember reading the book back in the 70s and being horrified and fascinated at the same time. I see that there is another book with a fresh look at the records of the actual patient that Sybil was based on:
Whether or not she really did have 16 personalities, her case is remarkable and I think this book may be interesting to anyone that either read Sybil or is interested in these types of cases.

That's the book that I read about. I just looked up some of the reviews on Amazon. Seems that the whole story is very controversial. Hard to know what to believe in this case. I haven't read Sybil: Exposed, but I don't think reading it will be particularly useful in terms of learning the "truth." I believe that no one but Shirley Mason and her doctor (maybe) know the truth. I do know that Multiple Personality Disorder does exist, but it has been over-diagnosed for several years. I think that Sybil: Exposed may be a backlash against this over-diagnosis.

Shannon, I hope you read the review. One does need a strong stomach. I felt the contrast between the horrible and beautiful emphasized both emotions. As a whole, the tone is upplifting rather than depressing.
