I just started Jodi Picoult's newest book, House Rules. I usually am chomping at the bit to read her books as soon as they come out, but, for some reason, I wasn't as anxious this time around. I can't figure out why, either. I am really interested in the topic!

I'm re reading Islands in the Sky by Arthur C Clarke, first book in his space trilogy. The reason is this month marks the second anniversary of the authors death-my little tribute!
Just started Incontinent on the Continent: My Mother, Her Walker, and Our Grand Tour of Italy.I love the description of the mother as a cross between the Queen Mother and Hyacinth Bucket. I looks like a lot of fun plus it involves a tour of Italy

I love Mrs Bouquet! Sounds like a good romp. Let us know what you think when you are done.
Currently I am reading Winters Garden by Kristin Hannah.. I have read all of her books and non have let me down so I guess I have stuck with what I know.
I'm currently reading The Angel's Game and Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China which is the groups april read but I've started it early as I couldn't wait.
John wrote: "After talking about classic westerns with GR's Classic Movies group I have decided to re-read Shane" Thanks for the info, I didn't realize that 'Shane' was taken from a book. I saw that when I was a child, later learned that in some of Alan Ladd's movies they had to give him a box to stand on because he was shorter than most of his leading ladies.
"I was lolling in my tire, where I do most of my best thinking". So goes part of the intro to Me Cheeta: The Autobiographythe memoirs of Cheeta, Tarzan's pet chimp. An unconventional insiders look a Hollywood.
I am listening to Beat the Reaper. It is a fast paced, edgy, thriller with laugh out loud moments but not for the squimish.
Heather wrote: "Melanie, I hope you like it. I'm a Chris Moore lover myself and am anxiously awaiting his new one in Feb. His books are the few that I will actually buy in Harcover. I think I have three different ..."
Alice wrote: "That sounds interesting CFSR. Let us know if there are any comparisons to your experiences!"Dear Heather,
Answering an earlier post which requested a view on "Labyrinth". The story really catches the atmosphere of the landscape and gives you a great desire to visit Carcassone, I thought it was a great story but I found the denouement disappointing and have not tried her more recent novel as a resu lt.
John wrote: "One of my Goodreads friends recommended Tim Winston books so I have started Breath"I found Breath a bit hard to read but the writing I thought was very good. (It was subject matter that got me at times). I have to say though that I do like Tim Winton books.

I just finished Breath and really enjoyed it. Loved the relationships of the characters and the progression of the two guys learning to surf. It was a bit kinky but that was well handled too. I will definitely be looking for more Tim Winton books.
I'm a newbie so firstly I'm going to say 'Hi'.Secondly, I'm currently re-reading The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy as I really love this book. I'm more than halfway through now and intend on finishing the entire original 5 part series before moving onto The Time Traveler's Wife
Hey Guys i am new as well ! so HI !!! and greetings from India, i am currently reading " A reliable Wife" my friend forced me to read , so far very interesting ! any suggestions for the next book i should read ??
Hannah Sullivan wrote: "II'm currently re-reading The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy ... before moving onto The Time Traveler's Wife ..."Good choices, and although they both involve time travel, they are, as I'm sure you know, very different.
Well I have just finished War & Peace which would explain my absence for the last couple of months! So now I am reading All I Did Was Ask: Conversations with Writers, Actors, Musicians, and Artists because it is easy to hop in and out of, does not require a lot of thinking on my end (need to give the brain a break) but provides great insight. And I am thinking of writing a series of posts on Interviewing for book bloggers and thought reading interviews from a terrific interviewer would be a great way to learn. The author, Terry Gross, hosts the show "Fresh Air" on NPR (Ntl. Public Radio).
Thanks for including the author (Terry Gross), she's one of my favorites. I love Fresh Air, This American Life, Car Talk, Off Ramp...and of course, Kai Risdal. I didn't know she had written a book, now that I know she is the author, the chances have risen estimably in my mind that I would find this very enjoyable and enlightening too. And you are right, she is a terrific interviewer. Sometimes I just marvel at the ease with which she broaches subjects, even those that are a little, squirmy, shall we say...and makes it seem perfectly natural to be talking about that! Her questions seem almost intrusive...and yet not offensive, at least people don't seem to take offense. I've often wondered if she lets the interviewees know what she's going to ask them...I know some interviewers feel it necessary to get a feel for what would be off-limits.Thanks again for the heads-up.
Right now I'm re-reading Journey to the Centre of the Earth by Jules Verne. I'm reading it again because it's one of my favourite books ever written and Jules Verne is an amzing writer. I just needed a change of pace from the other stuff I've been reading lately.
Carol wrote: "Thanks for including the author (Terry Gross), she's one of my favorites. I love Fresh Air, This American Life, Car Talk, Off Ramp...and of course, Kai Risdal. I didn't know she had written a boo..."The book is a collection of her interviews that were broadcast on Fresh Air of people in the arts & ent. world. But she does provide a little intro to each one giving a bit of the backstory/sharing behind the scenes. And her overall intro. chapter to the book explains how she does what she does. People (except for politicians) are allowed to tell her in advance what topics are untouchable for them so although they don't know what she's going to ask in advance (and sometimes she doesn't either since a response may lead to something new she hadn't planned per se) they don't feel anxious going in that they might need to fight off unwanted topics. It also helps since many of the interviews are not face to face so she feels it is easier to ask the tough/sticky stuff as just a voice and not looking into their eyes. Not as threatening/intrusive for them and not as intimidating for her.

im currently reading inkspell still im really enjoying it with every page it gets a bit more exciting
Currently reading Hounded To Death by Rita Mae Brown, I'm not sure but I think I haven't read this one before. It's been awhile since there has been a new book in this series, so I can't remember...I have fallen in love with foxhunting! There is a lot of side information re the sport, and Brown's continuing characters are very decent and likeable. Of course, the nasty one's usually get their comeuppance...they either get killed or foiled in some way. Reading about Virginia 'old-school' manners and customs is so reminiscent of my best friend's Tennesseean teachings (he's deceased now) that it touches my heart to read about 'Southern hospitality'...which I learned all from him. This edition is in larger print, and perhaps it is the print size, or maybe something else, but it seems that some of the writing is more simplistic than her earlier chapters to this on-going saga of hounds and hunt.
I finished Journey to the Centre of the Earth and now I'm reading From The Earth To The Moon by Jules Verne
Kimberly wrote: "I finished Journey to the Centre of the Earth and now I'm reading From The Earth To The Moon by Jules Verne "you have inspired me Kimberly. My son and I are going to start Verne's Journey to the Centre of the Earth. It's been a while since we read Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea so I think we are ready for another (they are not easy read alouds though!).
Currently I am reading Doctor Margaret's Sea Chest because I had started it quite awhile ago and then put it aside and I wanted to give it another chance. I started where I had left off and I have to say it is grabbing me more this time around.

Always happy to inspire! I have a copy of
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea sitty on my bookcase where it's been since September and I still haven't picked it up. I think I'll read it next.
I haven't heard of Doctor Margaret's Sea Chest before. I think I'll look into it.
I am currently reading Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca. I've heard a lot of wonderful things about it and a number of other groups have featured it in their group reads so I figured it's time to check it out =)

I am reading The Devil's Bones: A Novel by Jefferson Bass because I wanted a fast read before returning to Wave of Terror by Theodore Odrach. So far enjoying both of those books.
I'm reading Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane. I usually read tear jerker-type books that suck me in emotionally and I really wanted something different. I love it so far!
I am reading I Capture the Castle which is a group read. Also Arrow of God for a course, Pleasure because it was a gift and A Short History of Nearly Everything because I like to have a book I can dip into when I am waiting in line or otherwise have a few spare minutes.
I'm currently reading The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Attwood. wanted something different, seen good reviews. third into it and good sofar.

I'm reading The Children's Book - It was on offer and it's very good but it is taking me much longer than I planned to read it.
Chris wrote: "I'm reading The Children's Book - It was on offer and it's very good but it is taking me much longer than I planned to read it."So am I! Had to order it from the library and was surprised at how thick it was when it arrived. Not very far in, enjoying it so far but worried about finishing it before the return date.
Recently started The Girl Who Played with Fire and it is every bit as good as the first, perhaps even better.
