Thus, I was really impressed with my scores on both tests. As English is not my native language, which is Portuguese, I expected a score below 100 wpm, specially beacuse I've never had good English classes, and almost everything I learned - and am still learning - was through reading books to fit in these reading challenges. I have real difficulties with writing and speaking, as I usually don't have where to practise, those are the worst parts to me, but I'm improving my reading and listening.
This said, on the first test my score was 204 wpm with 100% of comprehension, whilst on the second it was 150 - 200 wpm with 100%.

I couldn't access the first test, but the second gave me a result of 250 - 300 words per minute, although I got knocked back down to average reading speed after taking reading comprehension into account. I find my reading speed is highly variable though, I have good days where I can blitz through pages like no tomorrow (and remember what I've read!), and other days where I have problems with brainfog and I struggle to take in so much as a single sentence.
Worth noting that the above is just for me reading in English, in any other language I'm slower than a snail because I'm looking up vocab every few minutes!

I'm sure there are other tests on the internet.
It really depends on the book. In general nonfiction, I regularly skim because there are so many recaps. In some genre fiction I will quickly go through because it's quite predictable what is happening. In some books I like to linger and enjoy all the words.
I read French and I don't usually look up words but it's definitely slower.
Pages of books are so arbitrary. Some have bigger print and lots of white space. Others are very dense. Reading 100 pages of Proust or Henry James takes way longer than 100 pages of a Regency romance. I have a rule of thumb about never paying full price, or even half price, for what I call a "2-hour book" - something under 200 pages. I will get them for .99 or less or get them from the library.
We obviously have some fast readers in this group. It's the only way someone could finish the whole challenge. And some of you work full-time and/or raise kids. I've only been able to read a lot since being retired.

Well that was interesting. I did the first test you mentioned, and got 291wpm at 91% comprehension. Although I suppose, as I edit financial reports for a living, I guess it shouldn't be that much of a shock. Maybe I am in the right job! :-)

I am another one who reads faster on screen or an ebook than a physical one, though.
