Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Yeah, I'm thinking we should do a classic every quarter (3 months) vice a month. All in favor?

message 52: by Zumbagirl (new)

Zumbagirl | 9 comments That sounds good. Can you add Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë to your list? Maybe it's already on it, but I've always wanted to read this book and it may be good for a buddy read

message 53: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Sure When we do a poll for the next one I'll put it on there.

message 55: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments I concur! A classic a quarter sounds good to me.

Officially, we aren't to start this until the 15th, but I listened to the first few chapters. I plan to listen to them again, as there are tons of characters in this book; I want to keep straight who did what to Dantès and why. I will probably whittle away at this little by little. There are 73 chapters.

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Yep its a long one. I'll probably get on it very soon. Guess I'll start a thread for it soon.

So its official. One classic a quarter. Which means 4 a year.

Excellent decision. Looking forward to the discussion.

SandyC (sandyc88) OK, so I read the first five chapters and am really enjoying the story. When I saw that Lisa Kay's e-book is 1200 pages, I realized I am reading **gasp!** an abridged version. I can't seem to find an E-version that is unabridged...the volume I downloaded from the library is only 511 pages...so looks like this reader is going to have to buy a doorstopper!

message 59: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Wait, Sandy! I'll post a free site. Just give me a second.

message 60: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) Ok!

message 61: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments OMG, my ebook I downloaded free was just under 1200 pages so I think I got the unabridged one.

SandyC (sandyc88) Thank you! What would I do without my Goodreads friends??

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 1922 comments So, is this a group read of a single book, or is everyone choosing their own book?

message 66: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (last edited Jan 12, 2012 01:30PM) (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Dhes, this is a group read of the voted on classic for the quarter (we need that long, LOL!). This quarter is The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments We should get started on our picks for the next Read A Classic for April-June. Anyone have any books you want included on our next poll? We'll try to limit the number of books to vote on to 6? maybe? Preferably books with less than 1200 pages. lol

message 69: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments LMAO! Really!

message 70: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) I have not picked this book up in a LONG time....

message 71: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Someone wanted Jane Eyre and I would like to add The Swiss Family Robinson. Both which have less than 1200 pages ☺

Any other suggestions?

message 72: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) Oooh, I would love to re-read Jane Eyre!

How about A Tale of Two Cities?

message 73: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Oh, they all sound good!

message 74: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments sounds great so far. So 3 more and I'll put a poll up for us to vote for the 2nd quarter Classic Read.

message 75: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments I'm afraid to nominate another one, because I already see one I want to read... but I'll suggest Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne just to get the ball rolling.

message 76: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments sounds great, Lisa Kay. I wouldn't mind reading any of the choices made so far.

message 77: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cawils_99) I know that this one was suggested before but I would really love to read it with the group Frankenstein by Mary Shelley .

message 78: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Another good one...
so far we got....
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
The Swiss Family Robinson by Johann David Wyss
A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

Does that sound good to you all to vote on or do you want one more suggestion?

message 79: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments I think that sounds like enough for a vote to me. But, I'll go with the flow. ☺

message 80: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Ok, then. We go with what we got. ☺

message 81: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Okay we have a tie for the Classic of April to June reading.

Jane Eyre and The Swiss Family Robinson

Do you all want to do 2 classics? or vote on those two?

message 82: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Why don't we vote again, just those two.

message 83: by Heather L (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) I second Lisa Kay: vote between these two.

message 84: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Thanks, Heather L! ☺

message 85: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments ok, will do ☺

message 86: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Well, Jane Eyre won the April - June Classic read. I'm sorry I'm so late at getting to this but I forgot. I've been having a lot of allergy headaches and my mind hasn't been on this like it should. Please forgive ☺

I'll go start a thread for it.
