I really enjoyed your insight on the character of Marie. Her character was one that I had trouble understanding. Since she clearly is a woman who wants love it seemed odd that she would stay with Mersault if he was clearly not capable of giving it to her.

I had never questioned Mersault as a narrator, had given no thought to his reliablilty. Since
Mersault is telling the story, it would make perfect sense that Marie is oversimplified in the novel.
