Daniela-Goddess of Reading I've just recently just started this book, and I'm sorry to those of you who adore this book...but I kind of know when I'm starting a book, whether if it's going to be a good one or a boring one.

Right now my awesomeness meter for books is low on the Hunger Games...Someone help me please, because I'm told that this series is a good one, very loved, but I just don't see it.

Should I drop it or what???

message 2: by Dee (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dee what are you potentially not liking about it? Every person is going to view books differently, I hated Twilight with a passion, but there are people who loved it - only you can decide if you want to DNF a book or not

Alisha Gollihugh This series is awesome it really is. I also like that the main character Katniss is the hero I am all about female doing the right thing and sticking up for herself and Katniss is the one that provides for her family after her dad is gone and protects her sister when her named is drawn and in the end she still stays true to who she is and what she believes in I know the beginning can be kinda of slow my sister in law had to talk me into reading this book but once I was done I was completely addicted in every way. I hope that you do give it a chance because it is a really good story!!

Kristen I was a little iffy going in too. I was pretty sure it would be a good story, but it just seemed so dark and depressing from the first chapter, I put off finishing it for about a month. But I did finish and I loved it.
But like Dee said, whether you will like it or not isn't something anyone else can really tell you.

I'm on page 15 and it just seems so boring....redundant.
Too much repeating.

Erika I didn't like so much the first book, but the second book is superb, really!!

but if you are not liking it, then don't read it, there are plenty of books out there, to be wasting time reading something you're not enjoying.

Daniela-Goddess of Reading I want to read it, and I'm only at the begining of it and all. Most great books are boring at the beginning right?
:/

Boyd Masters I had a hard time getting through the first couple chapters but I will tell you this I thought it was worth it when I finished. So in my opinion you should keep reading it.

Andrea Yes, it is a struggle getting through the beginning, but definitely worth it. I found the same to be true with The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, the first 100 pages were very difficult, but so worth it. Good luck and no regrets if you just move on, this series certainly isn't everyone's cup of tea.

A lot of people noted that, and I did too

I loved this book, but I agree that the beginning didn't capture my attention. A book should never have a boring moment, or a moment you want to skip over. If there is a part in a book like that, then the author didn't do his/ her job properly. I was taught in my writing classes to keep the reader's interest. If the writer is bored writing it, then the reader will be bored reading it. So, Susan should have tweaked it, changed the tone, or added emphasis to the beginning. That is the most important part after all. If I read the first few lines, and I'm not interested right away, I don't bother with it. The only reason I kept with this book was because I was told how great they were like the rest of you.

Rebecca W. I LOVEd this book!!!

Badgerlord I had a similar setback when reading A Shadow on the Glass, but I kept at it and eventually enjoyed it. When I say 'enjoyed' I mean in the same way people can enjoy seeing how long they can press their hand against a hot bench in summer. You know, a grim kind of enjoyment. The moral of this story; don't give up unless you really want to.

the begining is a little slow to start but the book does get really good and gets you flying through the next 2 at least it did for me

Colby The beginning is very slow, but I seriously COULD NOT put it down.

Hannah wait until page 100 and then, if it's REALLY horrid drop it, but its worth the slow parts in my opinion because once you get to part 2, you're hooked.

Kathy i guess i just dont see it i didnt have any problem with this book, i read it in about a day... but everybody is differnt and have their own opinions. i loved this series and CANNOT wait for the movie.

Angélica HELLO you won't know if it's good or not if you don't read it. Forget what other people say if it's bad or not, make up your own mind about it. Read the first one and if you don't like you don't have to read the others.

Veronica Hi there :) I had the same problem when i started the book. It is very redundant in the beginning. Once you get to the second section it is much more enjoyable. I though the same exact thing when I started the book. A friend had recommended the series and through the first section I could just not see what she loved so much. However I stuck to it and it is now probably my favorite series.

Sarah Keep reading! 15 pages is no where near far enough in to figure out if you like a book. The book gets much better when you get just a little bit farther!

Charlotte 15 pages really? youve to read the rest before you can judge, I promise its great :)

Daniela-Goddess of Reading Fine. I'll read the book, then I'll comment on it. You guys are right....i won't know if the book is good til

I get through half of the book.I will finished this book. I usually don't drop books when I've already started them...and I don't plan to do so with the Hunger Games. I just wanted to know if the beginning seemed boring to any of you guys.

Thanks guys for all you support!

-GOR out xD

Michelle If you have a hard time reading it, what about listening to it as an audio book? I've done that with numerous books that I just couldn't get into. I have yet to be disappointed with that method.

Nick how can you hate it its awesome

Chelsea Denisse well, first you should name the reasons you dislike it. And if those reasons are really bad, you should drop it, but if you think you can handle it and that they might become better, try to keep going.

message 28: by Nick (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nick i dont hate the book its really really good. I'm on catchingfire

Running Personally, I found it slow in the beginning and the same was with Shatter Me, My rule is I give a book 50 pages, if it has picked up but I'm still not sure, I go until page 100. If I still don't like it, I drop it.

But I think every book deserves a chance, and this will be one that pays off in the end.

Daniela-Goddess of Reading Okay guys...I'm at page 50 and I guess it's interesting

message 31: by Nick (new) - rated it 5 stars

Racheal Renwick Goddess of Reading-Daniela- wrote: "Okay guys...I'm at page 50 and I guess it's interesting"

It gets better once they start the games in the second section.

Nick well see ya

message 46: by Dee (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dee i once heard that rule to decide if you should give up a book, from 100 subtract your age and that is the amount of pages you should read before decided to keep reading or give up

So I'm 15 years old...Let's see 100 minus 15 equals 85. 85 til I can drop it.
The only problem is that I'm on page 166 and it's geting very interesting.
;)
Soooooooooooo thanks but no thanks.
xD

Ethan So you're liking it now?

Susan Daniela wrote: "I want to read it, and I'm only at the begining of it and all. Most great books are boring at the beginning right?

I'm glad to hear that you kept reading. I find most books (especially 1st in series) take at least 2 chapters to set the stage and set up the characters. I've found some books that you have to get at least 1/3 through.
