Glad you found something that you're excited about. Looks like an interesting book.

Oh! Thank you! I've read Isaac's Storm: A Man, a Time, and the Deadliest Hurricane in Historyand I really wanted to read Storm of the Century: The Labor Day Hurricane of 1935, since it has sat on my shelf for about 18 months ;)
Susan wrote: "Would And the Band Played On: Politics, People, and the AIDS Epidemic work?Susan"
Yes, I'll take it as a microhistory of AIDS.
I have changed my mind so many times on this task! I finally ended up with this - which I'm pretty sure should fit, but I wanted to check anyhow.
Thanks

Yep, that works.
Will Museum of the Missing: A History of Art Theft work for this task. I think it meets the guidelines for this task, but it is not on any of the microhistory lists you provided.

SuzieR wrote: "Would this one work?My Beautiful Genome: Discovering Our Genetic Future, One Quirk at a Time"
I'll take it. It seems to be a memoir, but the description makes it sound like she definitely makes the effort to put it into the larger social context and she's selected a narrow, "micro" focus.
I'm considering switching my choice for this one to The Disappearing Spoon: And Other True Tales of Madness, Love, and the History of the World from the Periodic Table of the Elements - I think this fits, but want to confirm before I commit.
Jessica wrote: "I'm considering switching my choice for this one to [book:The Disappearing Spoon: And Other True Tales of Madness, Love, and the History of the World from the Periodic Table of the Elements|7247854..."Great choice.
Lulu wrote: "Do either of these qualify: Pistols at Dawn by Richard Hopton and/or Leviathan by Philip Hoare?"Neither of those has clear descriptions, but they both look okay to me.
Cathy wrote: "Can I use this one? Brothel: Mustang Ranch and Its Women"Excellent choice. Let me know if you like it--it looks fascinating.
does The Purpose of the Past: Reflections on the Uses of History work? (i'm struggling with the first book I selected)
Dee wrote: "does The Purpose of the Past: Reflections on the Uses of History work? (i'm struggling with the first book I selected)"Yes. Very meta -- a microhistory of history!
How about Mwf Seeking Bff: My Yearlong Search For A New Best Friend which takes the author's scientific attempt to find a friend and uses it to discuss the idea of female friendships in general?
Ashley FL wrote: "How about Mwf Seeking Bff: My Yearlong Search For A New Best Friend which takes the author's scientific attempt to find a friend and uses it to discuss the idea of female friendship..."No, this is a personal memoir, not a microhistory. The author engages in a personal development project over the course of a year; she isn't really examining the history of female friendships or a specific friendship in the larger social context.
Belinda wrote: "Would 1000 Best Wine Secrets work?"No. That looks like a nonfiction book, but not like a history. The description does not indicate any effort to place wine in a larger social context or trace its history through time. Sorry.
I really enjoyed Brothel: Mustang Ranch and Its Women. The history of prostitution in Nevada was interesting but I really enjoyed the author's experiences when she was staying at the Mustang Ranch and the different POV when it was closed for good.
How about:Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand (Note adding book/author link isn't working for me right now, so I can't provide a link).
It shows up at #58 on the Listopia: Microhistories -- Sweeping Social Histories Of Just One Thing

Approved.
How about The Pawprints of History: Dogs and the Course of Human Events - a rendering of how dogs have influenced historical developments?
