I really do hope it helps at least one self pubbed author NOT make the same mistakes I have. I also hope it helps them find the information they need to self pub.
It would be great if others stopped by and offered some of their own information.
Self pub is daunting, but not impossible!
Yeah, G.C., you are not alone lol.

Thanks for the blogpost, it enlightened me alot as a reader of how much work a self-pub must go through.
Thanks for the blogpost, it enlightened me alot as a reader of how much work a self-pub must go through. Two things though.
1) You wrote "Smashowrds has its Style Guide here," it should be "Smashwords has its Style Guide here."
2) You wrote: "What makes a good cover? That is up for debate."
I agree, it is up for debate. However, I think this blogpost from another author will help future and current authors. It's by a NYT-bestseller author who recently did some self-pub on the side.

The author-couple talks about basics in cover-art design that might interests you. =)
I look forward to any blogpost you might do in the future that talks about the perils and prizes about self-pubbing.
There are prizes?! I thought it was all heartache and lost hours lol.
There are prizes?! I thought it was all heartache and lost hours lol. It's not the bad, but it feels like it sometimes.
I liked that other article on covers. I don't want to steal your thunder so maybe you could drop by my blog again and throw that link on there?

I was thinking along the line of knowing you wrote a novel or two or more. It's an accomplishment for each time you complete a story. =) And hey, you never know, you might end up being the next Amanda Hocking. =D
No problem, I copy-paste my comment onto your blog -- though looks like you'll have to approve it first before it shows up. =)
 Splitter,
Splitter,My favorite SNL skit of all time. I love it. Great post too. I have made all those mistakes and more. I've re-worked my book so many times, I dream in Times New Roman 12-point font.
I have the 2nd edition ebook (about the 7th edition, but only the 2nd official edition)ready to publish on Smashwords and I was wondering about POD options. Your post answered a lot of my questions.
Thanks again,
Rich

I know, I have some issues with other people's blogs too. And Experiment said a message was left, but I don't see it.

I broke down the process into 13 steps. This is the course before you take Self Publishing 101, but it is a good place to start (I think).
Covers print and eBooks basics.
