Ashlee (acurtis) | 1 comments I am a unpublished writer, who happens to write blogs on a basically regular basis and have written approximately 150 blogs in the past year and a half.
I wrote "Assassin," which has a complex plot and two stories within one novel without a specific setting, as I wanted the reader to experience that this could be happening in Anytown, USA.
The reason why I wrote my novel is because I felt as if there was something inside of me that I had to get written (or typed) onto paper. For me, the process was a bit overwhelming, as I am not an English major. I am an RN, BSN; therefore, I have not had former creative classes. I felt the need to get this creativity out of me. Like another author stated, I had to write this story.
I usually start out with a rough outline of where I want the story to go, with descriptions of characters regarding on what I would like to instill into a reader's mind while he/she reads the book. I feel as if this is a figuratively sketch of what is to bloom into a larger painting on a grander scale.
My creativity, as I think, most other people's, waxes and wanes. I still do write in my blog quite often, because I am one of those neurotic people that have weird things happen to her all the time (plus I am a nurse, so I get to observe all different types of people).
I find that, for me, going anywhere in public and listening to what other people are saying (yeah, I'm an eavesdropper) can help me build a character more realistically. I do quite a bit of what I refer to as my own field work when I am in public.
Watching movements and listening to how a person actually talks about something is very interesting to me. My friends and family, people that I know quite well, were partially in that book and have done similar things. However, I do press the character to do things on a grander scale than what the people that I know do just for a bigger impact. Nobody wants to sit and read about a person who just sits and reads.
I suppose I am lucky enough to have eccentric characters in my life that I am able to write about. But, as I mentioned above, performing field work at times is rather creatively stimulating as I watch people interact with each other.
I also think that because I am an avid reader, it makes sense for me to write when I can. Writing gives me a sense of purpose, in a way. I also have some skeletons in my closet that are true that I eventually would like to write about, but have found it to be difficult for me to discuss such a traumatic event while writing.
I have trouble finding the words for how bad of a situation that was, but know that I will be able to write about it in the near future. I know that I will require much encouragement and support when I decide to delve into my self and bring forth such a painful issue for me, but I would like to write something that is at least based on my own experiences. So, right now I am struggling with writing about this certain situation, even if I feel I have to eventually do it for myself.
