the novel is set in new york city 1987. the narrator is an illiterate 16 year old Clareece "Precious" Jones. she is pregnant with her second child from her father raping her. Mary her mother, physically and verbally abusive,hates Precious because Carl (father) would rather have sex with Precious than her. precious is sent to an alternative school called each one teach one because she is pregnant. i really like what i've been reading so far
