I very much enjoyed this book! I loved the Science behind the phenomena (that is all I will say for risk of spoilers).I found the characters to be extremely well developed and hope to read more about them in the rest of the trilogy. In my opinion, the Hugo win was well deserved!
I read this several years ago for another book club and quite liked it! I'll have to skim my copy to refresh my memory for the discussion.
As soon as I find where I hid (er, shelved) this paperback, I'll start reading it. I should have read this years ago. I'm looking forward to reading and discussing it.
I actually finished reading this for the first time a couple weeks back. I've been wanting to read this for a while so I jumped the gun. REALLY enjoyed it. Hope everyone else does too! :_
I read this the last time the group discussed it and really liked it, also read the sequel. Now that there is another book, I might have to reread all 3. We'll see.
What is the title of the second book? I guess I didn't know this was a trilogy (and really liked Spin)
The second book is Axis, and the third one is Vortex. (I'll set up a thread for discussion of these novels - let's not talk about them here.)
Anyway, as for me, I read Spin way back when it came out and have reread it a few times since then. I love it and consider it one of the better pure SF novels of the last decade or so. I'll set up some topics later.

Off topic- How come name bars have comments on this thread and Honor but not all other book threads? Is it something that GR have done or Mods? This seems to get good starage
Helen wrote: "Off topic- How come name bars have comments on this thread and Honor but not all other book threads? Is it something that GR have done or Mods? Yep, it's relatively new at GoodReads. I can't get it to work with every book either - if the book doesn't show up in the first dozen or so search results, there's no way to scroll down to the next batch. Still, it's nice when it works.
Okay, back to topic now! :)
Okay, back to topic now! :)
I've read this book about 6 months ago and really enjoyed it. I'll have to refresh my memory before jumping into the discussion thread.
I found my copy in my library waiting for me on a book shelf this morning. I will crack it open this afternoon.
Won't be reading this after all since I lent it and the sequel to my dad... and also discovered I don't own the 3rd book. So my reread will have to wait till I acquire my 2 books back and buy the 3rd. But I'll be following the discussion based on my earlier read of this book.
Managed to clear the decks of last months promised reads and am now rubbing my hands together with glee at the thought of starting this one. I don't know how I've missed it up to now and hope I find it as good as many people here have.
A comment that I've heard a lot about this book is the superior character development. I found that to be the case. You get attached to the three main characters right away.
I'm two hundred pages into the story and really enjoying it. I agree with Banner that the character development is far superior to what I normally wince through in a scifi novel.
I just started this. The writing style is easy to jump into (some books just need a period of adjustment...not so with this one). I like the premise. I haven't read a lot of sci-fi so I'm glad to expand my horizons...hehe
