I really enjoyed it too, though I wished I'd realised it is the first part of a trilogy.

I know - I just realized that after I started it!

Nancy Groves | 138 comments I recently finished a nonfiction travel/memoir book, "The Palace of the Snow Queen: Winter Travels in Lapland," Author Barbara Sjoholm describes several trips to locations in the far north of the Scandinavian countries, mostly around or above the Arctic Circle. In addition to describing attractions such as an ice hotel and tourist activities such as dogsledding, she probes political and cultural issues surrounding the indigenous Sami people, environmental concerns, and literature. Despite the fact that the author regularly mentions taking photos, there were none in the book, which I thought was quite a drawback.

I'm currently reading a YA novel called "Darwen Arkwright and the Peregrine Pact" by A.J. Hartley about a boy who goes through an old mirror into another world. It's a fast read, then I'll be on to something with more depth.

I'm not a fan of the zombie/vampire genre but picked this one up based on the author's reputation. Wow! It was a real page-turner, and I was crushed to realize that things wouldn't be resolved until the sequels. Can't wait!
