I loved these two people and their relationship. Max gave Liesel purpose by having someone to take care of and care for, she used him as a role that when her Dad
was gone. Their reading and cartoons was a very interesting part of the book to me. I was intrigued that Max whited/painted out Mein Kemph and turned it into a book that gave Liesel his Autobiography, and helped her understand his story. It also helped her to cover the nightmares of her brothers death.
I think there's more, will add more before too long.

Carol, I also thought it was very interesting that Max wrote the Standover Man over Mein Kampf. Death describest those pages as "gagging, suffocating under the paint," which is a lovely image of Max's story subverting Hitler's story--BUT the words of Mein Kampf STILL SHOWED THROUGH! He couldn't block them completely, could he?
