I've really been looking forward to reading this book and chatting with you smart ladies about it. I have really enjoyed the bantering we have in our group, when we are on a roll I learn so much from you. I had my book club with my local group last night. We had some really good discussion about this book. Maybe there would be more of us in the discussion.

Here are some of the thoughts/questions we discussed. 1. Did you find the characters in "The Book Thief" believable. Which of the characters did you like the most? Which if any did you dislike?

I thought the characters were extraordinarily well developed and believable. Nobody was one-dimensional. Mama was a tyrant and fundamentally loving and just. And Rudy. Oh, sweet Rudy! He was my favorite—probably the most complex of them all.

I thought Max, actually, was the least complex. Believable? Yes. Sure, we see him bloom somewhat with the stories he writes, but he’s almost annoyingly GOOD.
