Timo (schillerdc78) | 4 comments I found this great site today and am spending the evning entering my books.

But now I have run into trouble with the following books:

1.
Terry Pratchett, Lords and Ladies
ISBN 0-06-105692-8
Paperback
HarperPrism
281 Pages

When I entered the ISBN the resulting cover, publisher and page number didn't match.

Publisher and pages for my book see above and the cover is the one to be found in the goodreads database as asin: B000TU16R2 Format: Kindle Edition, 400 pages.

2.
Terry Pratchett, Soul Music
ISBN 0-06-105489-5
Paperback
Harper Torch
373 pages

When I entered the ISBN the resulting cover didn't match.

The cover for my book is the one to be found in the goodreads database as isbn: 0061052035, 9780061052033 Format: Hardcover, 389 pages.

And another edit because the next book from my shelf (Terry Pratchett, Interersting Times)brings the same problem. Could this be a general problem? Should I keep on posting stuff like this or just live with the wrong covers and data?

I'll hold back further edition problems until the lirarians tell me to go ahead and get them more work. ;)

kind regards

SchillerDC78

Violetta | 477 comments and your copy of soul music isbn 0-06-105489-5 has ?

Timo (schillerdc78) | 4 comments That is correct in both cases.

Violetta | 477 comments How many of your books have this problem?
It could be that the publishers are reusing the ISBNs...in which case the librarians would need to create alternate cover editions of Pratchett's books.

message 6: by Timo (new)

Timo (schillerdc78) | 4 comments So far I have found three but I have stopped with Pratchett for now because of the problems.
I have got nearly all of Pratchett's books in paperback, bought over 15 years in the US, UK and Germany with at least 5 different cover styles from Harpers alone as far as I can see.
So if I continue to post the problems this could be a bit of work. (Which I would be happy to help with)

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments It is possible for editions to share ISBN's and have different covers etc.

You can add your books if the cover is different as a alternative cover edition, you do not need to be a librarian to do it.

http://www.goodreads.com/help/librari...

Neither of the books you link to have had different covers added (Sometimes there are cover wars where people keep changing the cover to match their ISBN rather than add alternative cover edition) so it's probably safer to just add new alternative cover editions

Timo (schillerdc78) | 4 comments Thanks for the infi. I will look into the alternative covers next week.

Violetta | 477 comments Thanks Paula, I didn't realize non-librarians could add new books! Good to have learned something today :)

I am having the same type of ISBN trouble while trying to enter the following two books.

The Norton Anthology of English Literature - Fourth Edition. I entered vol 1 of this with ISBN 0393950484. Not the correct ISBN for the hardcover. The correct one is 0303950395 WHICH pull up something Labled Norton Anthology Wuthering Heights. Thats not correct. Help!

I want to add Vol 2 of the Fourth Edition but the ISBN of 0303950433 is pulling up the Sixth Edition.

I am not sure what to do now. I don't know if Norton was reusing ISBNs or what. Need some help to sort this out.
Thanks.

Good chance. You can create alternate-cover editions for your books. http://www.goodreads.com/help/show/85...

Thanks. The Fourth Edition is not really an alternate-cover. There are textual changes in the Norton Anthology from one edition to the next. Should I still go the alt-edition route?

We would still group them as editions of the same work, so yes.
