Slightly illegal, but nevermind :P(I read Catching Fire as a pdf on my laptop because it was 9pm when I finished THG and I couldn't cope with waiting for the library to open the next morning. I stayed up reading, went to sleep at about 5am, and then got up in the afternoon and went to the library to get Mockingjay. Totally didn't regret it)
sorry that i had to resort to somewhat slightly illegal measures but here in our country these kinds of books are not available in the library and its a bit expensive for a student like me to by them all so i resort to the internet
I think what I did was illegal but I read the books so long ago I can't remember what happened. I would get them from the library but there is like 20 people on hold for them.
Likewise, Madelene, our public library only has one copy of each book, so very difficult to get your hands on.
sorry Christina i am just a little defensive that all at least you're library has a copy ours doesn't even have one
Nah, no need to be defensive, I was definitely not preaching. Wow, that's hard to believe - I live in a really small town in freakin' New Zealand, and even we have a copy of each book. Where on earth do you live???

Slightly? As a writer, I find it ridiculously offensive. We make little enough without having people pirating our crap all over the place. I hope you all at least buy the book at some point and support the person who had to sweat blood over the manuscript.

I find it a little offensive that you'd rather people who don't have the money or legal opportunity to be able to read many books just go without instead of using the very limited means at their disposal. Not everyone is from a very wealthy country whose citizens can afford to eat *and* buy books. It's kind of annoying that you preach about how little money you make or are going to make when you're likely a million times better off than so many of those people.
I know that I'm extremely privileged even though I honestly don't make much as an editor. I make enough that I can afford to buy books, but I still understand that a lot of people don't have that luxury.

thank you so much for understanding and explaining it thoroughly
I don't understand why people are so scared of honest discussion. I guess they don't want to think about something that makes them uncomfortable?

You're welcome. It just bothers me when people don't think about anything outside their limited experience. I try to be diplomatic about it and not yell at them, since some people have just never been prompted to think about it and that's not necessarily their fault, but it's difficult not to be annoyed.
It wont let me take it down. But I didn't mean to offend anyone and I do plan on buying the books. I honestly wanted to just reread a part of the book because I forgot what happened. I got Mockingjay from my teacher as a pdf and I didn't realize it was that big of a deal. I'm very sorry it offend people.
sorry again if i offended anyone didn't mean to do anybody harm. let's all just stop this discussion and move on

Realise this is slightly delayed, but.... excuuuuuuse me, I hired the books out of the library. Which is perfectly legal. I'm just priveleged enough that my country funds public libraries, unlike other people, who are not so lucky. Surely, as a writer, you're not suggesting that those people simply *don't read* if books are not readily available to them?
And personally I can't afford to buy books - I earn minimum wage and I have rent to pay, and I'm also saving up for university - so forgive me if I stick to hiring books from the library, which I thought was perfectly acceptable in the first place.

Our library has books that date back to the 1980's and are so worn and dog-eared. They buy new books but rarely books for entertainment/leisure :( If I was rich I'd buy as many books as I want but unfortunately, I'm not rich.
I live in a country (Italy), where I can't find most books, so I order them online. I guess it's ok to read over internet, seems as no one would want to miss them :) haa
I use pirate bay. And PDF is a form of document reader/viewer. If you ever get articles online or for classes they are usually PDF files. maybe I should say they are most often opened by adobe acrobat, that might make more sense lol.
