I found Personal Space Camp to be a humorous and educational book for young children. I have struggled to find appropriate literature that can demonstrate and explain the concept of personal space to children under the age of nine. I believe Julia Cook provided young children valuable information and visual representation of a vital concept that they can utilize in their daily lives. Louis, a self-proclaimed space expert, struggles to stay within his own personal space. One day of Personal Space Camp with Principal Goodkid show Louis that he may be an outer space expert, but he does not know a great deal about personal space. After participating in a few personal space activities and having some time to process what personal space truly is, Louis begins to understand why others may get frustrated with him at times. I have worked with numerous kids that have the exact same struggles Louis has in this book. I believe this would be a wonderful resource to teach all children, but especially those who struggle with personal space issues, what personal space is and how people can respect others personal space. I would suggest Personal Space Camp to any parent or educator, particularly those who have children who struggle with personal space.
