Greg | 108 comments The print version of this book is a fully edited and textually restored edition. However, when I clicked on the 'download ebook' button and opted for the PDF format, I simply got a copy of the shorter, unedited and out-of-copyright version of the text produced by Feedbooks. Shouldn't any ebook version conform to the relevant print edition?

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments Not particularly, authors can up load either an ebook or a preview and others can upload a version of the book they find if it is out of copyright or they own the copyright to the work.

Edited to add: There may also not be "paperback" perfect ebook versions either

Greg | 108 comments Well the 'download ebook' button gives the impression that the ebook is the same version of the book described in the GR entry. There is no information given to indicate that they are not, in fact, the same. This is different from selecting an ebook version in the 'Other editions' tab because at least you will know that it is a different edition.

I'm guessing this is more of a feedback issue, though, as opposed to a librarians one.

Sandra | 31435 comments I'd think it would be a Librarian issue, as you could put an explanation in the description of that edition or indeed in the edition field.

Greg | 108 comments Something along the lines of 'The downloadable ebook associated with this volume is not necessarily of the same edition'? I think this would provide a sufficient warning to members and also, by using the phrase 'not necessarily', this would allow for the more appropriate ebook to become available at a later stage.

However, such a statement would seem more like a general policy - something that would appear as a disclaimer in all entries on Goodreads where a downloadable ebook of a printed volume is stated to be available. Or is it the case that downloadable ebooks are normally of the same edition so that only when this doesn't happen should a comment appear in the description or edition field?

Sandra | 31435 comments I would think that most ebooks would correlate well with the printed editions. It would be too much work for the publisher if they didn't.

Except it will appear next to each edition of a combined work.

Greg | 108 comments I've gone through the ebook editions and from the descriptions provided I couldn't find an electronic version of the edition listed above. Perhaps for copyright reasons one isn't available yet.
