as long as it was first published before 1975 does it work...i want to read The Fairy Tales of Hermann Hesse which was originally published in 1955, but all the copies I can find were published after that (if that makes sense)

As long as the original publishing date was pre 1975 the book works, so the Hermann Hesse is perfect for this task.
