ABANDONED. One of the characters was send for a timeout on the moon...

This is a tough one... All I remember is about someone I think was a secondary character. At some point he gets send to the moon by his mother? As punishment for --- I can't remember what. Anyway he stays there for a very long time (hundreds of years - thousands)? Only it turns out that the moon tricked him because it was lonely and he could have gone back earlier. Like stated; this is only a secondary character and a small story inside the larger one...
This one is really bugging me. Thanks for any suggestions...

Edit: This is probably young-adult fantasy/adventure - could be sci-fi. I seem to remember it had a quirky sense of humor but... I could be wrong there.

In the PS238 series, one character is sent for a time out on the moon, and there is some time traveling involved, but it doesn't quite sound like the plot you are describing.

I beleive his 'mother' was actually the planet Earth.

If that is the comic Ps238 by Aaron Williams - then no, that is not it. It's kind of funny though :-) The one I've got on my mind is probable a book. And his mother may have been the planet earth but I don't remember...
