Sometimes books are a little harder to get into or they require more attention and of course there is always the husband and the kids that want one thing or another so it may take me days to weeks.

I am a slow reader cause I want to enjoy the book. If it is a book I like then I usually finish a 200 + book between 1-7 days. Depending on how involved in the book I am and How well behaved the kids are (I am a stay-at-home-mom :)
Very fast, but I read in depth, and retain what I've read. I'm really lucky that way, because I'm completing a Master's program while working, and I'd be dead if I didn't process fast. Recently read
in about a week. Loved it.

i'm pretty much like you, though i'm trying to become faster, a voice in my head keeps saying 'so many books, so little time' :D
RE Jasmine and Yasmeen, we will never experience all there is (unless you believe in reincarnation - See The Ballad of Young Tam Lin for more on that), so why do we feel we are in a race? There's a lot of delicious food out there, but we don't meet that challenge by just cramming in as much as possible (well, I don't - some people ???), so why stress about how much pleasure we can get. If we are happy, we are blessed.

you're right, i'll never let my habit of digesting the books i read suffer in order to 'try and finish the race' :) and thanks i'll check out The Ballad of Young Tam Lin as soon as i can.

My work schedule gets in the way of my reading.
If I got loads of time I could read 1 book a day.

That's about where I'm at. It also depends on the *kind* of novel. I tend to read UF faster because it doesn't seem to require as much slogging through as some other kinds of books. I made a commitment to read at least an hour a day, and that has help improve things. So far this year, I've finished 7 books (which is cheating a little since I started 11/22/63 in 2011, and finished it early in 2012)!

If I enjoy it, it makes it easier to read... but that's not the be all and end all.
Average time for me to read a book would probably be approx 2-3 days each (100 books last year - goal for 110 this yr).
I have been told I read fast, but I've never done speed reading classes or anything. I don't scan read either, I read each word... so I'm not really sure how it is I read as fast as I do... must just love it :D
It all depends on the book. I have read books in a few hours, in a day, or it has taken me a month. It all depends on how I connect with the characters and the plot twists and turns in the book. I would say overall I am an above average quick reader.
I am a fast reader, it comes naturally, I like reading fast because as soon as I finish a book, someone buys me a new one sometimes or I go to the library.
I'm a really fast reader. People ask me if i eat the books instead of reading. Sometimes i feel that i read too fast but oh well... Unless I'm reading a classic. It takes me longer. This gets frustrating but I try to focus on the book not how long it takes me to finish it.

makes it a challenge to do buddy reads usually.

If I don't connect with a book, I want to get through it as quickly as possible and so I'll skim it. It takes a lot for me not to finish a book.

I think I'm a pretty fast reader. When I was little, I read almost all of the books from my local library lol When I first start reading, I have to read the first page few times to get into the book and then I scan read lol I wish I didn't have a full-time job so I could read all the time

our voices must know each other. I ahve a ton of books I want to read and they juct keep taunting me

So I guess I would say I'm average, not slow but not fast.

however, i have some books i have started months ago and still haven't finished, depends on how easy it is to emerse yourself in, so it depends on the book

I would say that I read fast. Which is pretty good for me since I barely have time to read anyways. I guess it also depends on how much it interests me. Most books I can finish in one to a couple of days but book that just bore me and I have to finish it takes forever!

I so do the same thing, I can't even have music on, I was when I was younger able to just block it out, as i come from a big family, but not anymore.

I can usually sum up a book in the first couple of chapters. If it hasn't hooked me by then or got me intrigued to find out what is happening, I either read it very, very slowly (when I can find time) or lose interest and not finish it at all.
A couple of books have fallen into the latter category. Was reading Taboo recently but it just didn't grab me. Also tried to read Wicked but it was so long and drawn out and laborious to read that I just couldn't be bothered ploughing through.
Pushed myself all the way through the Twilight trilogy but almost didn't finish because I found myself bored to death with Bella's monologues and by the end, found myself hating her whininess. My favourite book of all three was the last simply because I got a break from Bella's head and got to explore Jacob more fully. But then I'm not a huge fan of first person accounts. That being said, I am enjoying The Hunger Games.

I really enjoyed 'Wicked' too, but it took me a long time to finish it. I've read the others in that series, too, and can get bogged down. I like to switch from 'quick reads' to 'slow reads' so that I can get a break.

It's...hard to describe, I guess. XD But there ya have it. I finished up the recent book I was readin' in roughly a day of on-again off-again readin', and that's just 'cuz it was a Feist novel.
I freakin' dig Feist~!
