message 202: by Pratibha (new)

Pratibha R.D.H. (authorpratibha) “You have been to hell, Ketut?"
He smiled. Of course he's been there.
What's it like in hell?"
Same like in heaven," he said.
He saw my confusion and tried to explain. "Universe is a circle, Liss."
He said. "To up, to down -- all same, at end."
I remembered an old Christian mystic notion: As above, so below.
I asked. "Then how can you tell the difference between heaven and hell?"
Because of how you go. Heaven, you go up, through seven happy places. Hell, you go down, through seven sad places. This is why it better for you to go up, Liss." He laughed.
Same-same," he said. "Same in end, so better to be happy in journey."
I said, "So, if heaven is love, then hell is... "
Love, too," he said.
Ketut laughed again, "Always so difficult for young people to understand this!”

Anchita (autumn02) | 21 comments "And your defect is a propensity to hate everybody"
"And yours," he replied, with a little smile," is to wilfully misunderstand them."

An excerpt from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, my favorite lines from the book. These lines kind of sum up the whole emotion of the book, don't they?

message 207: by Kunal (new)

Kunal Sen | 506 comments “Past the flannel plains and blacktop graphs and skylines of canted rust, and past the tobacco-brown river overhung with weeping trees and coins of sunlight through them on the water downriver, to the place beyond the windbreak, where untilled fields simmer shrilly in the A.M. heat: shattercane, lambsquarter, cutgrass, saw brier, nutgrass, jimson-weed, wild mint, dandelion, foxtail, spinecabbage, goldenrod, creeping Charlie, butterprint, nightshade, ragweed, wild oat, vetch, butcher grass, invaginate volunteer beans, all heads nodding in a soft morning breeze like a mother’s hand on your check. An arrow of starlings fired from the windbreak’s thatch. The glitter of dew that stays where it is and steams all day. A Sunflower, four more one bowed, and horses in the distance standing rigid as toys. All nodding. Electric sounds of insects at their business. Ale-colored sunshine and pale sky and whorls of cirrus so high they cast no shadow. Insects all business all the time. Quartz and chert and schist and chondrite iron scabs in granite. Very old land. Look around you. The horizon trembling, shapeless. We are all of us brothers.”

message 209: by InsanePulao (new)

InsanePulao 1 “Ah…” Favonius nodded sympathetically. “I don’t blame you for being nervous, Nico di Angelo. Do you know how I ended up serving Cupid?”
“I don’t serve anyone,” Nico muttered. “Especially not Cupid.”
Favonius continued as if he hadn’t heard. “I fell in love with a mortal named Hyacinthus. He was quite extraordinary.”
“He…?” Jason’s brain was still fuzzy from his wind trip, so it took him a second to process that. “Oh…”
“Yes, Jason Grace.” Favonius arched an eyebrow. “I fell in love with a dude. Does that shock you?”

message 211: by Bihag (new)

Bihag Dave | 19 comments Ultimately, when locked again inside his study, he'd recall only the boy's eyes—those dilated pupils transfixed on the sky, somehow conveying rapture—and he'd think little more of what had been quickly fathomed there amid the gently shuddering grass: Roger's swollen lips and hands and cheeks, the countless weltlike stings that formed irregular patterns on the boy's neck, face, forehead, ears. Nor would Holmes ponder the few words he had then uttered while crouched by Roger, such gravely spoken words that, if heard by another, would have rung impossibly cold, unimaginably callous. “Quite dead, my boy. Quite dead, I fear. . . .”

A Slight Trick of the Mind - Mitch Cullin

message 213: by Anie (new)

Anie When you will see me in my sari no more,
When you will hear my footsteps no more,
You may forget me.

You may look at the stars no more,
Twinkling in the midnight blue sky,
And call out my name no more.

I will gaze on a red rose no more,
To inhale its fragrance so soft no more,
Without you it is just a flower to me.

The nightingale may sound sweet no more,
the storm that raged in your heart
With such passion, it will rage no more.

Our fingers may touch our photos gently,
Stroking each of our memories lightly,
But in time they will be remembered no more.

And yet-
If I should die before
your time comes,
``Dear god, please make it so!
But please, dear Lord, I do implore,
Keep my beloved safe and secure,
Forever more.``

Savita Singh | 1885 comments " Would you tell me , please , which way I ought to go from here ? "
" That depends a good deal on where you want to get to . "
" I don't much care where - "
" Then it doesn't matter which way you go ! "
Alice in Wonderland , Lewis Carroll
My comment : When we cross the threshold of adulthood , and the tests of life start in earnest , at every fork / crossroad this question comes up . Not always is the answer easy to find . Not always is there a mentor to point out the better way forward . But may the answer never be , " I don't much care where - " ! 😕

Pragya (pragyaagr13) | 110 comments Dear Life, you are exhausting at times. You throw more tantrums than I have ever known possible. You slow down, you speed up, you take time and give time. Sometimes there is sunshine and other times there are storms. So I try to break it up a little, take risks, love a lot and find comfort in trying new things. But you are never the same Life, always changing, always keeping me guessing. So I will live you Life, to my absolute potential.
