Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Now here's a surprise - Ignite recommending a book by Mr Harker!

Many of those who have tried Book 1 as a result of the November Books threads have gone on to read Book 2. I think this book is even better, necessarily so because we now know a little about the Wanderer and have some suspicions about his hidden past. We find out rather a lot more in this. The opening chapter is fast, exciting and grim but it gives us a lot of clues. We meet Rickard - what the newspapers would call a 'lovable rogue'! This young man is a wonderful counterpoint to the Wanderer's morose nature. If you like Book 1 you'll love Book 2. If you've tried this too, tell the world what you think (but not what happens - don't spoil the story!)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I'm over 80% through book 1 so will be starting book 2 tomorrow if not tonight!! cant wait! :o)

message 3: by Maureen (Mews) (new)

Maureen (Mews) (mews) | 711 comments I am at 23% of book 2 Jud. It's really good! I am just sad that I haven't had much time to read the last few days.

message 4: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I wonder why it's appeared up here? This was happening to freebies a couple of weeks back. Lost in transit?

message 5: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I just remembered I still have my lunch hour to take so will be starting book 2 today most likely :o)

message 6: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments It was posted on Book Recommendations, in case Simon or Patti can restore it to its righful place?

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

I found out why the freebie threads were appearing in general. When you start a thread, unless you choose a folder from the drop down section under title - it seems to automatically go into general. You didn't always have to do this. I forgot the other day - but when I went to edit the title I found the drop down menu still available so choose freebies and it went back to it's proper home!

:0)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Karen - what a star! Did it and it moved.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Yay! That must be the first time that I've given anyone technical advice and it's worked!!

:0)

message 10: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Don't run yourself down, you're good. Just noticed Towards has a lower case t. Must have been excited! I'll change that too.

message 11: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments There's no picture for Book 2 on good reads :o( That makes me sad. I like my frontpage to have a picture of the book i'm reading

message 12: by Cornelius (new)

Cornelius Harker | 830 comments I noticed that too, Jud. By the looks of things there appears to be one with a cover on Goodreads and one without. I'm not too certain why this should be the case. Perhaps you could swap to the other version, although you may have to ask Simon about that.

message 13: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments oh ok i can do that :o) just posted about this in other thread as well i'll go delete it. Don't want to hound you or anything...

Hows that blurb coming by the way?

;o)

message 14: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments YAY!!

When I searched for it the first time it just came up with the blank version so i didnt realise there was one with a picture.

message 15: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I don't think he heard you about the blurb Jud. Maybe if you were to say Blurb -Yay! he might.

message 16: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments how about this

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

What did you say Jud? I didn't quite catch that.... sounded a bit like blurb....?

:0)

message 18: by Cornelius (new)

Cornelius Harker | 830 comments Sorry, is someone saying something? I can't seem to ... nope, no one here.

message 19: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments No-one there? Well, that explains a lot!

message 20: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Thats disappointing, I was going to hand out free cakes to all present but i'll just have to eat them all myself

*nom nom nom*

message 21: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Hope you still have some cakes left Jud.I will finish my current book then join in with reading book 2 if you don't mind,I still can't get book 1 out of my head so perhaps that will be the remedy.

message 22: by Cornelius (new)

Cornelius Harker | 830 comments There's always someone somewhere, Kath, but strangely enough, never here.

I hope you have a few crumbs left, Jud, Sarah and I demand cake.

message 23: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments No Cake for you cornelius until that 3rd book blurb is done and dusted! Sarah you can have a whole one for yourself but you have to promise not to give any to cornelius until he behaves properly and does his homework!

message 24: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments ahhhhhhh! rikard!!!! ahhhhh!!!! amazing!!!

message 25: by Cornelius (new)

Cornelius Harker | 830 comments Jud (Krisztof) wrote: "ahhhhhhh! rikard!!!! ahhhhh!!!! amazing!!!"

Now that's made me laugh, Jud, even though you're depriving me of cake.

message 26: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments :o) glad i could share the joy

message 27: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Near the end, Jud, there's a passage where Rickard tells the Wanderer what the horse thinks about him. That's fabulous. It still makes me laugh! Have you got there yet?

message 28: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments no I'm about 30% through they have just left the wee village place with the old woman. Really enjoying it so far

message 29: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments That's quite poignant isn't it? I think she says something like, 'the young are there to remind the old about something but she can't remember what it is!' - that's just off the top of my head.

I'm not quite that old!

message 30: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I thought it was dead sweet! Bless her wee heart.

I'm fasinated by W's struggle with his conscience at some of the things he has done, even though I would say he was pretty justified in doing what he did most of the time. I just want to give him a big hug and tell him its ok

message 31: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments There - I knew someone else would fall for The Wanderer! (Incidentally - I saw him first!)
Trying not to give the plot away, the business with Banbury and then the creature - yes, he is hot-headed and then sometimes regretful. You've got to love him though!

message 32: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I know it took me ages to write my last post cause I didnt want to give anything away! This is hard. Maybe we should warn of spoilers.

message 33: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments There's a way you can hide spoilers - must have a word with Simon!

message 35: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Woop woop!!

< spoiler > I cant believe that happened < /spoiler >

only without spaces

message 36: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Yep, that's it - how did you do it? a bit of cunning html?

message 37: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments yes I clicked on the (some html is ok) link and it gave me a list of things you can use
