Charleen | 1 comments So, what did the fans of the books think?
I understand that the series was not going to be completely accurate... I do... I didn't expect it to be. I did however, expect it to follow the story to some degree. I'll post this, and see if it takes, and then I will post my opinion. criticism... whatever.

Jessie | 11 comments I have learned to try to distance myself from the books when watching a TV show or Movie based from the books. I guess the "story/plot" is still mostly the same, just how they are getting there is different. I don't understand why they changed the whole process of Richard memorizing the book and burning it when he was younger. I guess that I am hoping that something that he did allowed him to memorize it. Shouldn't we have seen something about the boxes of Orden being put into play already with how far they have gotten in the first two episodes? I could point out a lot of why did they or what happened to but I won't. One thing I did not like was that they changed the relationship with Richard and Zed. In the book Zed was like a grandfather to Richard. Changing that connection I fear with take away from their future relationship. I will stop there for now and see how others feel.

I did however really enjoy the show if I am not comparing it to the book. The visuals are amazing!!

Pheonix (pheonixeyes) | 5 comments Ok i agree with the zed comment and the book. They are definatly going about this on a different approach. Like wasn't Lord Rahal who kill richard's father??? Well i do keep the book seperate from movies and TV series as well. I am now on the sixth book and books are so much better than Tv and movies can show because the imagination is limitless!

Craig (digitalcraig) I think the key thing to realize is that Legend of the Seeker is "based" on Sword of the Truth books. The thing that told me this was not going to be a telling of the books' plot was when they started the 2nd episode without a "here's what happened last time" recap.

To me, that indicates they intend each episode to mostly stand on its own. I do think they intend to advance an overall storyline a piece at a time through the episodes, but the main point of each episode is going to be Richard, Kahlan, and Zed helping some poor town get out from under Darken Rahl's thumb. For example, they revealed that Zed is Richard's grandfather in last night's episode only at the very end after Richard freed the town where he was born.

I suppose that's the only thing that makes sense. If you tried to tell the book's plot like you would an episode of Lost, you'll lose half the fans in just a couple of episodes. They'll already know what's going to happen. You have to find a balance that will appeal new fans that haven't read the book while keeping the ones who have interested also.

Kathy Please give me the books anyday of the week. The show isn't bad, but you can't take away the character development that Goodkind puts in his books. It's very difficult to translate that to a one hour TV series. I think that this is the Sword of Truth meets a "Stargate" TV concept.

BTW, I'm on book 7 of the series and wish I would have found these books years ago! I guess that when I am finally done, I will have to read them again from the beginning (like my Wheel of Time books before the FINAL book comes out). :P

Regina | 4 comments Hi, I'm new to this group and I didn't even know they had made a series about Goodkind's books. Can someone give me the lowdown on it (when it airs, or aired? what channel? etc)I'd like to watch it even if it's a disappointment from the awesome books.

Smp (smp1918) | 2 comments Hi, I am new to this site, anyway Regina if you go to hulu.com and type in legend of the seeker you can see all the episodes

message 8: by Regina (new)

Regina | 4 comments Thanks Smp, I'll check on that. I've never used hulu before. Should be a new experience. I can't wait to watch the series. Does anyone know if Goodkind was happy with the creation?

I hope you enjoy the books as much as I did. I got to meet the author once and have checked out his website. He has an interesting story to tell all his own.
I finally got to watch a little of the tv series- not a complete episode yet. It seemed a little "campy" to me- kind of like Hercules and Zena. I guess that's ok, but the books seem quite serious and full of philosophical ideas that the author wants his readers to chew on- A big challenge for any "campy" tv series.

Bookhustler | 1 comments I didn't like the TV series at all. I completely understand that it can not follow the books exactly. I thought that the show might be a little more graphic. ie. the first time Richard kills with the Sword, I had hoped they might show that in the first episode and that it might follow the book a little on that one point. I'll just stick to the books!!!!!!!!

I love the show and so does my wife, the books are much better but their is nothing else like it on TV. I also wish they would follow the books more closely though. I think it would have made an even better TV show that way.

We are greatly looking forward to the second season this September!

Cody (snakewind) | 14 comments Well.. I just don't understand why Jennsen have to be on first season. Everything in details does make sense tho, but I absolutely love the show. I am ready for Season 2 with High definition on TV! However, it just something different from the book so that its more interesting than what you already knowing what is gonna happen. I understand that the director and the author knew it will be little different. I just love the actors, and thought they were brilliant too. However, finger crossed for them to be awesome show this season.

Edit: However, I agreed the book is so much better than TV because any book is always better than TV shows or movie. For example, The Lord of the Rings book, what I've heard, is whole lot better than the movie. I love their movie anyway because the Director is brilliant also.

So, if you read all "Sword of the Truth" series. I'd suggest you to read "The Law of Nines" by Terry Goodkind. Amazing book. I'm currently on Chapter 13. I can't say anything about it, but I can say one thing. Something is connecting between Sword of the Truth and Law of Nines. :)

I totally agree! I watched the first two episodes and all I did was stew and rip the tv show to threads. I was very disappointed. Of course I was always hoping for an epic movie over a tv show...

I have been watching the series on netflix now for the last few weeks. First I am glad that i read up on the tv series before i started watching so I knew ahead of time that Goodkind gave the writers a lot of fudging room wtih the plots of the shows. The characters are roughly the same and it is good to have mental images of people and places, buildings and items to go with my continued reading.

John LeViness (jlawrence) | 5 comments Not a big fan, but I watched every one anyway. I'm a sucker for B movies anyways. It got better as it went along but I will admit that every episode was a bit of a rambling. They could have done better by keeping tighter to a story line. The books were great.
