I couldn't anyway - I don't know if anyone else has a copy of Jack Bickham's "38 Most Common Fiction Writing Mistakes (And How to Avoid Them)" - his tips are simple and effective - chapter 23 puzzled me - what the hell is a transom? Ever since an American friend enlightened me, I've been captivated by the idea of an Alligator dropping through one. The wheels turned slowly, then faster and faster and before long there was something a tad longer than a short story - Chapter One is up now, the main action takes place in London - here's the link if you fancy checking it out: http://www.goodreads.com/story/show/2...

Yep. That's my Alfie. Twelve feet from top to tail, haven't managed to get him on the bathroom scales though. Yet.
