I set the original publication date as 1375. He penned these over a lifetime, so exact date uncertain, but that gets you the full 25 oldies points.

For collections, the publication date typically is the published date of the most recent item in the collection. Can you provide more information on which specific works are included in this book?

message 105: by Anika (new)

Anika | 2793 comments Barring the introduction essays by the translator (1976)... the poetry and prose is selected from throughout Rilke's career though the most recent item was an excerpt from his notebooks, dated two weeks before his death in 1926.

Rebekah (bekalynn) This book was on the Scotia Giller prize list. It says it was fist published Nov 2012. Have I been asleep and missed a whole year?!

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14224 comments Ha! Thanks, Rebekah. That's probably a US publication date, but I've fixed the original pub date.

Melanie (melaniethepler) | 81 comments Hi! I'm wondering about the publication date for The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest...Goodreads says 2000, but Wikipedia says it was published posthumously in 2007, and I've seen 2009/2010 elsewhere (though I think this is the English version). Help, please? Thank you!

Rosemary | 4273 comments I've changed the dates on Circe and Not Wisely But Too Well

Christine, do you have any kind of plot summary on the back of your copy of Not Wisely But Too Well that you could type in and we could add in the description? I just put something from Wikipedia but it is more about the publication history than the plot.

El | 300 comments I'm confused with the publication date of The Woman and the Puppet. It says in the description "One of the great novels about obsessive love, The Woman and The Puppet was first published in France in 1898" and but it is listed as 'first published November 30th 1912'.

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14224 comments Eleanor wrote: "I'm confused with the publication date of The Woman and the Puppet. It says in the description "One of the great novels about obsessive love, The Woman and The Puppet was first published in France ..."

Fixed this, thanks for letting us know.

Anika | 2793 comments I was putting together a second alphabet song and found For Her Good Estate: The Life of Elizabeth de Burgh by Frances A. Underhill. Goodreads has the publication date listed as 2000, but in the book itself which I am holding in my lap, it has a copyright dated of 1999 ("First edition: December 1999).

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14224 comments I changed it. Is the edition you have the same as one that is in the GR database? Wondering if we need to add another edition.

Kathleen (itpdx) (itpdx) | 1720 comments I don't know if the Librarian is the one to ask. But I can't find a birth place or year for T.R. Reid. The bios say that he is American but that doesn't necessarily mean that he was born in the US. And I haven't found anything that gives his age.

The GR link you provided says he was born in the United States. Perhaps he wishes to retain his privacy as to age. His list of publications at wiki indicate a greater than 20 year publishing career. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T.R._Rei...

Kathleen (itpdx) (itpdx) | 1720 comments Funny, I was busy reading the fine print and missed the obvious. It looks like he served in Vietnam Nam after college which would make him over 60 but I guess that I won't claim that combo because I can't find anything to confirm that. Interestingly enough he is running for the Colorado legislature but if he gets elected he won't start serving until after the challenge.

I would think his bio/birth might be available with election stuff, then. Might check Colorado Elections.

I have done that, but if you want to let us know the publisher, year of publication of this edition and hardback or paperback, that could be added too.

It's Peter Fleming by the way, older brother of the James Bond author Ian Fleming. Looks like an interesting book!

I had a hard time with this because the book you linked to said it was published in November 2007. So I went to the publisher, and, indeed, the original publication date is November 1, 2007.

Thanks for that! I have since become a Goodreads librarian and I was able to update the publisher, etc. myself.

It certainly *is* an interesting read, by the way :-)

Rebekah (bekalynn) For the LLL sub challenge, I am reading my second book. I went by Goodreads description which said first pub in 1983. However I learned that was the first Pelican paperback edition. It was actually first pub in 1956.
It doesn't mess up the order I have my books listed, but wanted to let you know.

Rebekah (bekalynn) Another prob.
I've just finished Miramar by Naguib Mafouz.
Here si the link to the most popular edition Miramar Miramar by Naguib Mahfouz but it is not in English. In fact I'm hang trouble finding a link to an English version. My book is published by Doubleday, Anchor Books paperback. The cover is the same. I did find it on the link to the Brooklyn library that is the same edition I read.

The ISBN Rebekah provided IS for the most popular English language edition. It was mistakenly labeled as an Arabic-language edition. I have corrected that & edited the page numbers to match worldcat's information, as well as adding an English-language summary.

The reason I went with that is because wiki referenced another title as his "first YA" novel pub 1996. So 1995 conflicted with that statement. It was more likely that the 1995 was a typo, as the other could not have been one.
