eReaders vs Dead Trees
Sony e-reader prices dropped from $150 to $130 for the wifi version. What is also (potentially) exciting news for existing users, Sony is also offering additional $50 off for those wishing to upgrade from their older models.

hahaha!! yep, you got me wrong there, Bernie. haha! I like gadgets around the house, sure that part is indeed true, I like to own all the latest stuff, but I also like the slow things of life. Slow food, slow sipping on tea, slow mornings, slowly flicking a newspaper or magazine over slowly rising sun. :D
Oh, and I do like my brewed coffee. You're were right there too. But I drink coffee late morning, once I am out and about my day (when I need the caffeine rush) :)
Dawn wrote: "You are relentless, but I've gotta check it out anyway..... :)"Hah hah, in all honesty, I don't really "care" what medium everyone is using to consume their reading material on, Dawn >8) As many things in life, this subject does not have a right or wrong answer, only an answer that is right for you. This is a personal choice which is guided by our own circumstances, needs, or experiences. I merely strive provide whatever help I can offer to those interested in giving this "new age" a try. The ultimate decision rests with you. You'll find me posting whenever I find some interesting e-reader tid-bit! >8)

Its hard to beat the old fashioned kindle, you know: Its big advantage is the electronic ink screen (sort of etch-a-sketch on steroids) that isn't back lit, so no sore eyes, and you can read it in direct sunlight - so great for holidays (for those of us who don't live somewhere where the sun doesn't usually shine)
Whoa, Amazon has been selling 1 million Kindles per week!http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/15/ki...

Strangely, I noticed a weird upsurge in kindle sales of my book starting about 6 weeks ago, which I couldn't account for, but maybe its just that there is more kindles out there.
Sorry if this counts as spam.

Ouch! That hurts.

lol!
Well, the thing with Goodreads is that it is not always about the people who are active in the groups, it is about the members that don't post but visit and the lurkers, people who don't join, but check things out.
There can be thousands of those together. :)
And then there are those of us in this group that speak to others in other groups, public, private and secret, and we also speak to our Goodreads friends in PMs.
The power of GR is underestimated. *wink* :D

The increased sales of your book could be undoubtedly linked to the increased Kindle sales ... if everyone received their Christmas gifts early.

For some reason whenever I click on the link I'm being kicked back to the GoodReads homepage. If it's what I think it is though it's very cool. My mum sent me a link the other day.
You can try this one, it's a link to YouTube. Or it's called 'The Joy of Books' if you want to search it on YouTube.http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=...#!
Still not working for me, maybe it's just my computer. I'll assume it's the same video. The idea of trying to find things on YouTube fills me with a mixture of horror, exasperation and apathy.
Wow, it's sending me back to Goodreads too. Both links.Dawn has weird creepy links.
Try this..

Fantastic video! Love it! Saw a couple books I would like to have a look at in that shop too. lolAlong this theme. I was in Typo a couple days back (one of my favourite shops)... http://shop.cottonon.com/typo/ ....and they have a whole wall of the orange penguin books. http://shop.cottonon.com/search/?q=pe... and hundred different kinds of accessories with penguin books printed on them...notepads, drink bottles, pencil cases.
I saw a lot of highschool kids going through the books, buying the books and buying their new school year supplies from the stores Penguin range of accessories. So I think books are still going strong among the younger generations over here. It was nice to see.

Yep, that works and it is the one. Must have taken them ages.

I've seen those. It's nice that they've become such design icons. Just like the Haynes manuals. Do you have those in Oz?
Then yes. :) We have those. We even own some. The manual for our farm ute, an old 720 Nissan dual cab 4 wheel drive, is priceless to us.

I've had one for every car I've ever owned. Also some of the domestic appliance ones. They're useful too!
Domestic appliance ones? Now those I haven't seen.In the world of digital vs paper. We once bought a CD manual online, for a previous car we owned, thinking this was the the way to go to find more out about some electrical wiring and fuse boxes we wanted to check.
It was lame and we ended up buying the Haynes book. those you can flick through in seconds to what you want.
A CD on the computer, you have to click through menus only to go to the page and find the section hasn't got what you're looking for. Then have to start all over again. The book? So much easier.

I find exactly the same thing with books I'm using academically. Flicking through is so much easier with an actual book.
And I used to find that with Bills, Legislation, Desktop studies...things like that. I need to have the hardcopy, no matter how large, it is so much easier than clicking through a digital copy.
I must say that I am just glad that you dead tree lovers are not the head of some Tech R & D department or I believe I would still be getting out of my chair to change the channel. ;)
Ha, if it were up to us dead tree lovers you would still be listening to the radio, who needs TV when there are books!! :)
It's going great. I am on it right now. Thanks for asking. I tried downloading a free book from Amazon yesterday (used the Kindle app on my tablet) and it all worked. How's your Mrs like her new Blackberry tablet that you gave her for Christmas?
Dawn wrote: " who needs TV when there are books!! :)"Oh, well, I wouldn't go that far. :D
I love watching tv. Lol
Terri wrote: "Dawn wrote: " who needs TV when there are books!! :)"Oh, well, I wouldn't go that far. :D

I would. The longer I am without one the more I dread the day when it's suggested we might get one again.
To me, a lot of what I watch on tv is as important as reading. I watch a lot of documentaries on everything from nature to war to architecture. And what I watch that is not docos...my 'shows' is me being a social sponge. Learning how the world lives and interacts in modern day. Learning about other culture and pop culture. It is social studies in a way and because I am isolated from society out here on the farm a large chunk of the time, I do like to see what is going on in the world. In order to be a part of it.I guess that is one of the bigger reasons that I interact socially on GR. To be a part of the world.
I'd be lost without tv AND gr. :) they are my windows to the world. lol
Wow, that is far more profound than my reasons to watch TV. :)I did live without TV my entire childhood though, my parents thought it wasn't good for us and up until last year all I used my TV for was movies. Now that I have digital TV, I am obsessed with the food network and anything by the BBC.
Yeah, I can slip into profound thoughts sometimes. I am obsessed with the food network too. I have learned a lot over the years from watching other people cook and talk about food. lol
I always think it's odd that I love the food network. I don't like cooking and I don't like eating most of the foods I see but hey, I can't sing either but I love American Idol too! :)
I like to watch the tryouts of American Idol because they are hysterical. I also like to wach The Middle, Harry's Law, and Hot in Cleveland, mostly for comedic relief. If I didn't have that, I would be insane, due to the chaos that reigns in my household. All five of us have ADHD and constantly "chase chickens"!
Five people in a house with ADHD? That would be one active house. :)I only watched one American Idol season. The second one...all those years ago..just to see what it was like. We didn't make it to the end of the season as we lost interest.
I'm not much for variety shows or talent shows of any kind I'm afraid.
Not that I actually look unfavourably on those who do like them, (only teasing you before Dawn..:)...).they simply aren't to my taste.
X-factor too! You're addicted to talent shows aren't you? :) Okay...let's out with it...I watch Housewives of Beverley Hills. It WAS my dirty secret and now I am cleansed.
Well, your pop culture research excuse is a good one Terri - apart from the two talent shows I have heard of none of the shows mentioned above! It's only 12-18 months that I've been without a TV!
12 to 18 months? Sounds like eternity. Where would I be without my Time Team reruns and current favourite cooking show 'Great British Food Revival'.(I wouldn't mind getting my hands on James Martin..oh..I mean..a James Martin Heritage Apple and Custard Tart with Spiced Apple Compote ;)..)
Great British Food revival.

I envisioned you waking up to the automatic coffee dispenser brewing, the self timed window blinds scrolling open, your cell phone at your finger tips ready for your messages, reaching over for your tablet to check your Facebook and finally turning on your ereader for a few minutes of serenity before going on the computer to check the latest news. I'm sorry, I guess I just read you wrong!
