I'm only up to page 21 (started last night) and I like the differences between prodigies & geniuses. Never thought of it before (well, obviously I'm neither a prodigy nor a genius, lol)Bit annoying how he thinks the whole world is over when he got dumped but then again he's a teen (whilst I'm not) so... it's pretty realistic so far.
I can tell already that I'm going to like Hassan though
Early in and loving it. Just the right amount of humor and pathos/seriousness. Like the footnotes and graphs. Fun book so far.
I won't get to this book till December. :( I have it here but two books came in from the library that I won't be able to renew so I have to read those first.
I know I'm a bit late jumping in here, but I am about halfway and really loving this book. My husband and I just started listening to Outliers so Colin's ideas on relationships are particularly relevant to me right now.
I just realized that by accident I'm reading the book club pick here -- I picked up a copy at the Strand Bookstore (which was amazing, if you're ever in NYC . .. go!) when my editor took me there. Anyway, I've just started it yesterday and I'm grabbing bits of it when I can between deadlines for my next novel. I love the prose style and the pacing, so far, is really appealing. I'm keen to see where it goes.
I am enjoying the book so far. I love the relationship between Hassan and Colin. I think that the footnotes are great! And I thought it was funny when I found out there is an appendix!
I am a newbie and I saw your invitation to revive old discussions, and since I just started this book on Sunday I thought I would post my initial reactions. I read the summary of this book to my students from The Ultimate Teen Book Guide and decided I wanted to go pick it up right away. I love Colin and Hassan - they are the perfect best friends. Their blend of smarts and quirks make them incredibly likable. I love the footnotes, bits of random trivia, all of the languages, and the anecdotes about all of the Katherines. I am really enjoying this book - I have been reading a lot of "heavy" YA lit lately and this is a nice change.
I love when old discussions get revived! I still love this book and was also glad that it wasn't a heavy read. Kinda funny in a way!
