Dashiell Hammett may of only used his PI Sam Spade once in The Maltese Falcon and some short stories in The Adventures of Sam Spade and Other Stories but Sam Spade is still one of the most memorable protagonists.

Also Sam Spade was used in Joe Gores's novel Spade and Archer

Kim I'm not a big fan of Sam Spade. There was just something about him that I didn't like.

What is that?

Mohammed (mohammedaosman) I liked Sam Spade but Hammett was forcing himself when he changed to the more popular style of hardboiled PI. Writing the handsome, wisecracking hero that has become popular icon.

The story was not as strong as Red Harvest and his short stories.

I liked Spade but thought his short stories were better written than MF.
