I'll check it out , thanks! :)

Peggy I'd like to read Stephen King's thoughts about the movie (Bag of Bones); can you provide info on where you found it.

I have not seen King's thoughts on this movie. I just know that, in general, he hates bad adaptations.

Thank you for clarifying. I had read before that he disliked Kubrick's "The Shining" but not seen anything about his response to the BoB movie.

J.W. Griebel Bag of Bones is one of my favorite King novels. The characters--especially Mattie Devore--were some of my favorites of his as well, as I actually ended up caring about them.

The movie took all of that away and instead focused on Pierce Brosnan jogging and being a lame action hero, especially when Mattie died. They put things in the movie that never happened in the book; things that I couldn't see Mike Noonan doing.

It was awful.

J.R. McLemore I loved this book, too. I enjoyed the various plotlines that wove together and I especially enjoyed the ending. So much better than King's typical endings that leave you with questions instead of answers. I was so excited to learn they were making it into a miniseries.

However, I was sorely disappointed by the adaptation. Many things were changed which derailed much of the suspense, etc. In a nutshell...hated it. :(

Michelle I didn't get a chance to see the movie on A & E last fall, So, after so many people "loved" the book, I read it earlier this year. To my surprise I wasn't a big fan of it, after just having read 11/22/63 right before and loved it. IMHO, It emphasized too much on the brutal rape of Sara at one point which could have been less explicit. Also, there was a long stretch between nail biting parts and boredom. Would like to check out the movie if it ever airs again.

Christopher Zacher Ho are they going to cast friggin james Bond to play the main charachter. I mean the main charachter was American, sure as hell didn't have an English accent.

Becky I absolutely loved this book. The movie, not so much.

Sammi It's my favorite King book, too!
Is it shown only in America? Or will it be out in the uk, too?

4030lisa I thought the book was fine. Granted, maybe not one of the best of King's but really, not a complete shambles of a story line either... The movie, though did prove to be a bumpier ride, too much was made of smaller things and not enough of a focus was put where an original reader of the story might have wished.
So much that could have been mined for effect and emotional value was left off...and far too much hollow pinata style, 'made for TV' movie dramatic camera time (yes, complete with amped up false tension soundtrack,) placed on the all too obvious. That is what bleeds a story of it's original color and rubs out many of the finely drawn, dark threads of complexity. If King himself felt this was an truly great adaptation of his work, I would be very surprised....

This adaptation pales in quality by comparison to Christine or possibly even Dream Catcher....

Christopher Zacher Am I wrong in remembering the main character wasn't even English?

Vivian The only SK movies IMO that lived up to the books were Carrie, Misery and Cujo. Those were great. This one was a big disappointment to me. The casting was just wrong.

Pandora Richardson I refuse to watch it. After so many bad SK adaptations, I refuse to be upset yet again. Unless SK, likes it, I won't watch it. Hollywood seems to make a game out of screwing up adaptations especially SK works, with few exceptions and even those could use some work.

Michelle I read Bag Of Bones earlier this year and recently borrowed the dvd of Bag Of Bones from my local library. Although I did like it, I felt somewhat indifferent to the movie in comparrison to the book. In my opinion, the movie was less King like as far as Thriller, than the actual book. Yet, the book was too explicit in detail of some parts. (ie. the brutal rape of Sara Tidwell) And, although the cast did a good job, I didn't particularly agree on the choices of characters for certain roles. I thought both the parts of Michael Noonan and Maddie Devour should have been portrayed by somewhat younger actors than the actors chosen for those roles and I felt Jason Priestly was too young for the role in which he played. However, I did feel that the actress portaying Sara Tidwell was a good fit for the part. Also, I did notice there was not as much mention in the movie of the owls in the studio, as opposed to the book, until "Michael" figured out the crossword puzzle. Overall, I did enjoy the movie more than I thought I would. It clarified some questions I had within the story in the book.

Marion Hill Carolyn wrote: "Thanks, Jason. I still look forward to reading the book."

Carolyn,

I just finished reading the book today. This was my first Stephen King novel. It was not what I expected from him. It felt like John Irving or Richard Ford meets Stephen King...a literary ghost love story. It was well-written and a good story. I was surprised.

Bill I recently watched this from a rerun that I DVR'd and it was truly awful. It was a 2 part TV miniseries and I almost didn't watch Part 2 because I was so disappointed. Against my better judgment I stuck with it and watched it to the finish – Sadly it did not get any better in the second half. If you have read the book (which is great) then do yourself a favor and skip the miniseries. It will only waste hours of your life that you can never get back.

I hate Mick Garris! Name one good movie He has done.

I hate the script. This is a terrible movie!

Lisa I watched 20 minutes of the movie and called it a day. The movie was so different from the book. I litterally despised it. The book took me away for a while. I read it in 16 hours (there about) I started it on a Wed. morning and finished about four AM on Thursday. If they would stop messing with the beauty of the books and just write the screenplay LIKE the book, they would have magic. Its like the first 'Shining'. That movie was terrible. No where near what the book is. I have read it about 50 times and not once have I ever seen 'All work and no play make Jack a dull boy'. The remake in the 90's? Sheer perfection. King had say so over what went on. He hated the first movie too. I read that somewhere. 'Bag of Bones' is too good for the atrocity they did in the movie

Annette Reynolds I felt "Bag of Bones" was Stephen King's best (up to that point). When I discovered the mini-series, I was excited; until I watched it. Movie/mini-series was AWFUL and in no way lived up to the written (real) thing.

Christine I could not wait for this movie, having loved the book. however, I only made it through the first half and couldn't watch anymore. HORRIBLE! It was miscast and the plot was chopped to pieces.

I think the book is one of King's best. His books so very rarely transition into good movies.

Linda Just re-read bag of Bones and loved it. Now watching the TV movie and its terrible, they have changed it so much and cast the wrong people. ITS AWFUL.

Aaron Dries I didn't mind the movie, even with the changes. I actually loved the solemn pacing of the first half, but the final third of the 2nd night goes totally off the rails - and not in a good way.
