Josh Messina | 11 comments So I finally finished book four (inheritance), and I was wondering if anyone else felt the plot was a bit rushed, though I must say the overall ending was one of the best series closures I have read to date. He (Paolini) seemed to try and advance the characters to fast with little to no actual growing.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Could you put a link to the author & books here? I have no idea what series this is.

Josh Messina | 11 comments Sorry I was using goodreads android app, and they seem to have left out that functionality. The first book of the sites isEragon

Jared Josh, I felt the opposite actually. I thought the plot and the meat of the book in general was very enjoyable, but the ending was unbelievably unsatisfying. I never demanded or expected much of the series, so it wasn't too disappointing for me.

Kiwidude I was very disappointed with the final book. I think most of it could have been easily trimmed - way too many pointless side-stories that did not add any value whatsoever. It wasn't a mistake he made in his earlier books. In reality he should have stuck to his original plan of a trilogy, it would have been far tighter.

As for the very end itself - I'm with Jared, I found it unsatisfying too. Firstly because he made such a blatantly obvious attempt to go through every single character ever mentioned in the book and write some sort of conclusion for them. I can understand how some people like that, but I'm quite ok with leaving a few threads untied for minor characters. And secondly from the romance angle - having dedicated how many pages over the entire series to Eragon's angst, to end it like he did? Sigh...

It just left me feeling a bit underwhelmed. Which is a shame because I did enjoy the earlier books. He's not the first author to "lose the plot" so to speak when it comes to the final book (Hunger Games, cough) but I found it much more of a slog than enjoyment.
