David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments I'll wander in now all those diseased dwarves have gone. The place is looking lovely, GL. Mind if I settle for a moment and do some writing?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Make yourself at home Gaff. And Will, line up over there on the right.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Is there a bar? Or do we have to go to the dark and kysterious late night thread for that?

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments or even mysterious?

message 755: by David (new)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Oh yes, the Dark and Mysterious thread is about to be cleaned up and refurbished as well. But for now, you can use the private bar. Please follow me downstairs...

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Line 'em up. I've had a hard day!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Just sit on your kyster and get those down you!

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments It's very pretty. The sort of place you could get comfy in. Hmmm, I feel a circular reference coming on!

message 762: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments I think I'll just slouch here with a glass of something therapeutic, one of the better ales perhaps.

message 763: by Gingerlily - The Full Wild (last edited May 30, 2015 01:11PM) (new)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Well I have a selection of ales, but if theres one you particularly want, just ask.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I recommend Fraoch. Nice and refreshing. Failing that, some Tactical Nuclear Penguin. Wipeout.

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments How about some Doombar?

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments God ale, good company. What more could a person ask for? Other than a good book to pass those not so uncomfortable silences with!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Looks like I'm not the only one having a hungover Sunday.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I'm not hungover! Ticked off it's raining and I'm going to Gardening Scotland today though.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments We could do with some rain here. Very dusty.

Had a few gins last night and used a lime and mint pop as a mixer rather than tonic. I think the sugar in the mixer has given me this massive headache.

Concert party was very fun, though. Watched it from a friend's balcony that overlooks the open air amphitheatre. Seventh floor. Talk about being in the nosebleed seats!

Was some Russian band. Don't ask me their name. Apparently they're quite famous. An Azeri friend told me the tickets were 200 manat. This in a country where tickets for posh ballets cost 2 manat.

So glad I cooked yesterday. Couldn't face standing in the kitchen today. Ergh.

I'm not hungover either, and it's utterly persisting it down.
One day we'll see some sort of summer

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments It's raining here too. The McOthers are all up and I'm sitting here in beeps relaxing and catching up.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Dave made me poached eggs on toast!

All I had to do was put the water on to boil, slice the bread, put it in the toaster, crack the eggs into the poaching thingies, butter the toast and put the eggs on a plate.

He's so lovely.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Hang on, has this just become the morning tbread?

And I want to know why MT is sitting in beeps?

message 780: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Presumably because whatever Mary IS sitting in has been beeped out...

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Come and load my dishwasher.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Any competent IT person will ALWAYS blame their equipment! And I was a competent IT person a couple of years ago.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments With those typing skills?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I was a programmer, not a typist!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Here is a little nugget from my brother. He seems to have inherited the family literary skills...

Twenty-First Century Hell
Today, most people, including those with a religious faith, no longer believe in the traditional description of Hell, where all the dammed souls are burning in the eternal fire, with the Devil, complete with horns and tail, giving the occasional prod with his pitchfork. But perhaps there is
a hell after all.....
Imagine that you are driving, or at least trying to, but you are stuck in an enormous traffic jam.
You cannot tell for how long you have been stuck, but it seems to have been forever. You need to get to an important meeting, you have just about enough time to get there, if only you could get out of this jam, but you never can.
It is a hot summer's day, and your car does not have any air conditioning. Opening the window has absolutely no effect. All you can do is sweat. It is certainly too hot to walk, even if there was anywhere to go. When you are thirsty, you do have a bottle of water, but every drink seems warmer than the last one. You also have sandwiches, but they were made yesterday morning, and taste like it too!
You might try and rest, perhaps even a quick sleep until the traffic moves again. But as soon as you close your eyes, the cars in front do move again, and unless you also do immediately, a chorus of horns and expletives behind you will make sure you do.
You could try switching on the radio. But you can only pick up two stations, which are both playing the same rubbish songs over and over again, frequently punctuated by the most
annoying advertisements ever. Do you really need a new central heating system or a fractionally cheaper gas supply? So you switch off the radio and switch on the cassette player
(no CD in this car!). But you only have one tape, by Daniel O'Donnell, and it is badly worn and stretched. It never actually tangles or breaks, but it does sound worse every time you play it.
And forget about borrowing one off anyone else!
Finally, you have a mobile phone, that actually has both charge and credit. Perhaps you can talk to someone. But the signal here varies between impossibly weak and non-existent. Half the time you cannot get through, and the other half you are immediately cut off as soon as you do.
* The traffic jam will never clear - ever.
* The weather will never get any cooler.
* Your water and food will never run out, just get warmer and more stale.
* The radio will never get any better.
* Your tape will never actually break, just sound worse each time.
* You will never get through on the phone.
Surely this is Hell!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments How disappointing. I thought it was something exciting, like sexy lingerie!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Nice find, Patti!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Actually, I'm totally fed up with the whole 'keep calm' thing.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments How about we change it to 'Freak out!'

message 797: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Freak out and beep works for me.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments It would!

message 799: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I dunno, it works quite well for me too.
