If the president wins and if there is a 60% win in Congress I think it is much worse for the country as a whole. I think by having the majority in both branches you erase the checks and balances. That was the problem with Bush imo was the Reps let the power go to their head and started passing anything they wanted because they could. I worry the pendalum will swing the other way now only with a more liberal platform.
The natural ebb and flow of the country and the people I think are looking for that swing but I think in the end (in the end of 4 or 8 years) you then get a backlash and it swings back the other way. I think a balance in the congress and senate help to keep the president from either party under control. It didn't happen with Bush during the republican lead house years and if the dems win both this year the same will happen.
You're right though those tax plans were passed by congress. Which leads me again to say that if you're unhappy with them every voter needs to pay more attention to their state officials and make their voice known to them because they hold the votes that pass the measures that trickle down to your pocketbooks and your rights.
And you totally ROCK Laura. I love being able to have intellectual conversations about politics without people pulling the dirty politcs mud slinging crap that seems only too common on every level. Thanks for the intellectual break from my normal Sesame Street driven days. :)

And if Obama is indeed going to involve Warren Buffet in the proceedings, as I keep hearing, I personally will feel a lot better, as anyone could probably take a few investment lessons from him. Right now, we need an investment genius such as Buffet to get this country righted, in my opinion.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow being over. I want the fights to end, the debates to be done and find out who is the clear winner. And to know where our country is going.
That's my 2 cents. For what it's worth.

Yeah, Tera, we'll agree to disagree but I really enjoyed this discussion, because I learned some things from it, so thanks for that!
