Bee, I have written to Carolyn who is moderator for this group and the one who started this game. She has suggested that we come up with a consensus about certain rules and she will add them to the rules listed on page 1. There are certain things that have occurred, like English vs. American spellings variations, which I think is okay (color vs. colour).

However, I don't think we should use foreign words unless they are used in English. For instance, we use casa and senora in English, but we don't use trabajar. I think we could use the first two, but not the second. Some words are obscure so the person using the word needs to put a definition next to the word, like I did in 12890. I do think any word used should be found in an English dictionary. My personal opinion is to avoid names of people and places since they can be spelled different ways, but I can be convinced. Let's discuss and come up with some ideas and then let Carolyn know.

Yes, I'll add whatever we decide to message 1. I agree about non-English words and also justification (definition) of obscure words used, i.e., carpentry term, something along those lines, you don't need a huge definition.

Emily's right about places being spelled different - but I think if we go with the English version of the place/places that would be okay. But let me know what you think re that.

To me names are way too confusing - last names only?, famous/infamous people? and depending on your country of origin that could encompass so many people. I know a Gena and Gina, I know a Jon and a John, there's my name spelling or Kerrilyn Sparks - so different. So maybe only last names but then what criteria would be use?

We could vote as follows and this is my vote:

Names - No
Places - Yes (with English spelling)

I'll give it about a week (02/22/13) and keep track, then whichever way we agree or disagree, I'll post on message 1.

I agree no names
but English spelling for places

even though "Grunewald" would count then because I don't think there is a different Endlish spelling but I'll check if it is found in an English dictionary
