by any chance, has anyone in this group a reading suggestion in regards to women's soccer in Africa, China's increasing economic influence or on the life of doctors and aid workers?

The Canadian general who wrote about Rwanda came across as very humane ... it was such a terrible tragedy even picking up a book about happened was tough.

you mean Romeo Delare? Shake hands with the devil. What a man! What a life! He is one of the greatest Canadians alive and is campaigning against the meanest of all 'weapon systems', child soldiers.
Hello,
I lived in several African countries for years (currently in Niger) and have always enjoyed reading African litterature, mainly in French and English.
I hope to participate in the joint reading tour, though it is rather difficult to access books in Niamey (except through kindle).
I am happy having discovered the group. Keep up the good work!

Hi, Wim! Welcome to the group! What authors local to Niger do you recommend?

As an introduction, I am a Canadian female non-fiction author who recently published Dust in My Pack. It is based on my 'best-of' travel tales from living, working and taking a few long-term travel sabbaticals around the world over the past twenty years. Stories focus on lesser-visited remote lands across our planet.
Curious?

Greetings from Nova Scotia. Nice of you to join this group. I'm curious to learn more about your travels.

Hello, Nancy! Welcome to the group. I wish you much success on your new book.

I am new in the group. My name is Nour. I'm fifteen years old and I'm from Algeria.
I can read in Arabic and French. And write in Arabic.
I haven't read a lot of African books but this step shall be the first to a fantastic journey with africain writers.
PS: I've read many books for Algerian authors but never for an another African writer.

I'm Laura (or Rowi, it's the same) and I'm an Italian reader who is trying to read more African books and authors. I read in Italian, English and I'm trying to read in French too, if I didn't forget my studies... I'm also learning Arabic and Wolof, but there's a long long way for me...
I'd like to know if you have any book in Wolof, because reading for me is a really good exercise to improve my knowledge about a language.
Many thanks!

Thank you.
In reality, my best one is Malek Bennabi. I also like Mouloud Feraoun, Kateb Yacine and Wassini Al-aradj. And I'm trying to read something for Albert Camus as soon as possible, his writings seem interesting.

I'm Zainab from Nigeria. I'm a journalist and an author who's very interested in stories of love that defy tradition, stories of personal growth that refuse conformity, stories of everyday life basically. I am inspired by styles and voices in literature that urge people to find their own identities.
I am looking forward to connect and share this passion with you.

Hello Diane,
Unfortunately, the litterature scene in Niger is almost inexistant. Even in capital city Niamey there are almost no bookstores or cultural events around litterature. People don't read a lot and compulsory reading at school is mainly based on classic French or African litterature. The same 10 titles that always come back and that are decades old...

I am Sam (f not m, although you'll usually see me as ariesdollface). I'm new to the group and excited to read more Africa-based literature (and non-fiction?) and engage in discussions with similarly inclined enthusiasts.

Hi, Nina! Welcome to the group!

My name is Tracy! I am new to this group. I travelled to Tunisia and Kenya. Wrote my first book after my trip to Kenya.
Would love to travel more around Africa but for until then, I will discover it through the books I read.
If you want to have a look at my first book regarding my experience in Kenya with the Maasai here it is.
My Maasai Experience: Reflections
Looking forward to follow and participate in discussions of this group.

I am Ami and I have moved to Cape Town from Delhi, India over the last one year.
I realize I've read very little of literature set in Africa, or by African authors, so I'm trying to fix that now.
I'm very happy to have discovered the Tour d'Afrique. It sounds like an amazing project, and although I'm really late in joining the tour bus, I'm keen to catch up and participate in it for the next few months.
I look forward to being a part of book-reading and discussions on this group!

by any chance, has anyone in this group a reading suggestion in regards to women's soccer in Africa, China's increasing economic influence or on the life of doctors and aid workers?"
Hey Mika,
I haven't read this book but a friend's recommendation has put it on my to-read list: Chasing Chaos: My Decade In and Out of Humanitarian Aid.

Welcome to the group! We're having a Zimbabwe sprint with three books if you want to join a group read :)

I just realised that I joined the group and have yet to introduce myself.
I'm Robyn, I live in JHB South Africa. This year I gave myself a goal to read at least 15 books my local authors which I have succeeded in meeting and exceeding. I'd like to focus now on reading more literature from across the continent which I guess is why I got so excited when I stumbled across this group.
I haven't had my chance to travel, I've only been out of SA once and that was when I was about 7 years old, we went to Botswana for a wedding.
I love that I'll be able to travel through the books I'll discover here and look forward to the discussions we'll have :)

Hi, Yefon! Welcome to the group!
Hi, Yefon! Welcome to the group!

Besides reading a lot of classic books, I've also been trying to read books by writers from a lot of different countries- I don't have a set goal on that, but I'm up to 41 countries now, soon to be 42. I only have 4 African countries represented (S Africa, Morocco, Nigeria and Somalia) so hopefully this group will help me increase that. I see the group is reading Nervous Conditions (Zimbabwe) which is on my list for next year. The only African country I have visited is Morocco- hope to visit others.

I highly recommend Nervous Conditions. I think you will really enjoy it.

Welcome George! That pretty much describes me before last year! I turned it into a challenge over here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... ...Which helped me get from 5 to 28 countries. So welcome, and join us in some great African reads :)

George, that's an interesting thought - knowing what countries' writers you've read. I'll try listing down the numbers for myself and then try expanding the list. Already doing that with a lot of new African authors I've got to know of / started reading thanks to this fantastic group.

Hi, Obed! Welcome to the group!

I am Caroline and just joined the group. All I am reading at the moment are books by African authors.
I really only started reading about two years ago and hope to get recommendations and discuss books I've read and books I hope to read soon.
I am Zambian, currently living in Germany, but I grew up in Africa. Although it's a huge continent, books I have read so far really touch base, like I instantly understand what point the author is trying to bring across. However there are so many beauties in books that I would love experience on my own.
