One is a shortened old school medical term while the other comes from hundreds of years of racial oppression. They are completely different.
Retarded people never had to drink from separate water fountains, use their own bathrooms, banned from eating in a restaurant with whites, etc.
You are way off base here.

hey, rachel- I just wanted to say that I think you might like the story/book flowers for algernon, if you haven't already read it...
Rachel, don't try and pigeon hole me or attempt to judge me. I have an Autistic person as well as person with severe downs syndrome in my family.
Plenty of people with these handicaps are able to join the workforce and do join the workforce, in fact, employers are encouraged to do so and are offered benefits for hiring challenged people. You are painting an entirely inaccurate picture of how the world as whole treats them. Because you view a an old medical term that was never meant to be harmful on par with a racial slur, that was created to demean people.
Yes, they are put in special classes, that's not because they are viewed as worthless, it's because they cannot keep up with other students. And colleges would accept them, but many of them cannot pass the pre-exam to get in. I feel sorry for you because you cannot realistically look at the situation. You are only able to see the negatives in how society accepts them, instead of seeing what good is done for them.

What the fuck? Word Nigger is way more offensive than the word retard. They aren't even in the same ballpark. The idea that you would even consider this is insane.
Through out all of your history books where did you read that some Whip-cracker was beating slow people and calling the "retards" as they plowed their fields?
