Kim I just received my first bonsai. Has anybody here had experience with this plant/art form? I don't want to kill it! I saw a bunch of books under "bonsai" but didn't know which ones would be best. Any help here is welcome. I think it is so beautiful!

Kim Ok, so no one here does bonsai. Well, just letting you know, I've ordered Bonsai by Harry Tomlinson so hopefully it'll give me some good tips. I haven't managed to kill it yet... If anyone has any thoughts eventually I'll keep checking here.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Sorry, somehow I missed this topic Kim! Unfortunately I'm of no help here though since I've never had bonsai!

Zenyatta (smutsia_gigantea) Updates, please! I want to start growing bonsai as well - something I've been raring to do for a long time now if not for financial constraints (and undue lack of real motivation).

peg (mcicutti) | 419 comments I love bonsai but have never tried it. Please keep us posted on your progress. I may join you in this attempt.

What type of plant do you have?

Kristen I've been wanting to start growing bonsai as well but am a little intimidated. I think I just need a little group motivation!

Miriam I purchased a larch tree last year, and was reading up about it. One of the internet references said it was one that is frequently used in bonsai. I am most likely going to use it this way, but maybe a semi bonsai since it is already two feet tall. Larch are deciduous connifers. Needles and cones but drop their leaves. Can tolerate cold to -65F.
