Hours Spent Procrastinating: Ummm all of today? Well, except I had to pack and do homework.
Word Goal for Today: I dunno. I'd like to get to like ... 57k. Because I'd still like to get to 100k total. But, I sort of doubt it'll happen.
Words written today: Errm. Like 300ish.

Oh, I decided the whole "switching to Sky-Fall" idea was a terrible idea after all. So I'll just stick with Sweet Sorrow and hope it gets more interesting.

Abby (abbytails) | 46 comments Do you guys think it's a ok-ish idea to write scene by scene instead of straight from beginning to end? Cuz that's what I'm trying to do. It's working so far, but I just want to make sure that it won't cause trouble down the road.

Hmm. In my personal experience, that has caused trouble. Going back and writing the filler is extremely difficult for me. It was also hard to get the continuity and timeline to be accurate.

BUT everyone writes differently. If you want to write scene by scene and it's working for you, go for it! I know quite a few writers do that and it works for them. :D

Like Lav, I've almost always written chronologically. And for pretty much the same reason––it just makes it easier to figure out the order of things, the timeline, the continuity, etc. I'm always afraid that if I write out of order, I'll only write the "important" parts and then I won't know how long to stretch out the filler in between those parts, if that makes sense.

The problem with writing in chronological order is when you hit those "filler" bits when not much is happening. But generally, I've found that-–although painful to get through––those parts educate me a lot about the story. I learn a lot about characters through writing random dialogues, inner monologues, and so forth in order to fill up space. Sure, a lot of that stuff gets edited out in later drafts, but it helps me to figure out what I'm trying to say and what I'm trying to get across. That's just my personal experience.

However, plenty of writers write out of order and it might work for them. I, being quite disorganized, just can't really do it. I like to "wander" through the story more and see how it surprises me along the way.

Abby (abbytails) | 46 comments thanks guys! i'll be careful. :)

i've actually gotten to a point where i know almost exactly word for word how i want to do it, so i'm going chronologically for now. it's really only parts in the beginning that have trouble with. that and description. :) i never know how much is enough and what's too little or too much.
