I was told by a Palahniuk fan that the Remix version of Invisible Monsters is probably best for die hard fans who have already read the book once. Also, that it is not a good version to read if it is your first experience with him.

Just thought I would throw that out there . . . take it however you like! :)"

Thanks for getting that out there, Matthew! I had completely forgotten about the Remix version.

E. | 242 comments Yes I did a little research before I committed to getting a copy of Invisible Monsters. Glad I went with the original.
If the book jumps around, that's one thing. If I have to do the jumping, that sounds like work.
I'm looking forward to this book. Sounds strange, but good.

Betsy Hetzel | 469 comments Maybe this is not the place for this post but I'm just wondering.... when do we find out what the King May BOTM read will be? How is it picked?
Thanks!

message 204: by E. (new)

E. | 242 comments I know someone will answer soon Betsy. With this group I tend to "just come across it" usually after it has started.
To the powers that be:
Maybe a group message to give everyone a heads-up and a point in the right direction..?

message 205: by E. (new)

E. | 242 comments ...or maybe I've just missed it if it happened.

message 206: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments The Group read wasn't chosen in the usual way last month so we'll just have to see what happens this time. It'll be a surprise!

message 207: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) May will be a King book, so we'll put up a poll from the shelf in a week or so: https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...

message 208: by E. (new)

E. | 242 comments Thanks Becky.

message 209: by Rach (new)

Rach (reeniebell) | 166 comments I'm quite pleased that next month seems to already be in planning, it's nice for everyone to be able to get hold of the book and start at roughly the same time.

message 210: by Betsy (new)

Betsy Hetzel | 469 comments To our MODS, Our BOTM for October is SOLE SURVIVOR, is that right? Will the discussion thread be going up sometime soon? I just finished it last night, have lots of questions and wonder what others thought of it. Thanks for all your help!

message 211: by Kristin (new)

Kristin Miller I'm not sure if this kind of question is allowed here, so you can delete it if it's not. But, I'm just now getting into Stephen King and reading in general. I never liked reading for fun when I was younger, but now I'm starting to see why people like it. Which book would you guys suggest a noobie like myself to read first?

Is there anything in particular that draws you? Give us a starting point and we will overload you with suggestions! :D

How much do you like a good scare? How willing are you to read a really long book? Scare + Long = IT. Scare + short = The Shining or Full Dark No Stars. Non scare + short = Different Seasons (especially Shawshank + the Body.) Non scare + long = Under the Dome, 11/22/63, or even The Green Mile

Sara the Librarian (museoffire) We've got moving coming of age with a dash of thriller "Joyland" or good old fashioned haunted houses "Bag of Bones." Then there's your demon possessed homicidal maniacs a la "Desperation" or just your average homicidal maniacs in say "Misery" or maybe a homicidal automobile like "Christine" or a homicidal automobile driver like "Mr. Mercedes." There are even a few with virtually no homicide. I think. ;)

Loved Joyland, Misery, Bag of Bones and Christine. Desperation and Mr. Mercedes, not so much.

message 216: by E. (new)

E. | 242 comments Nice mathematical and maniacal formulas Sara and Nick.

message 217: by Ron (new)

Ron | 134 comments Give early King a shot. I know a lot of young adults who say Carrie was their favorite book. Even though I've been a fan for many years, I recently read Carrie and The Dead Zone for the first time! Loved them both. Each gave me a renewed understanding for his work.

Sara the Librarian (museoffire) Good point Ron. I remember holding off on "The Shining" for years just based on my impressions of the Kubrick film and when I finally read it I was completely bowled over. There's a vitality in the early stuff simply because he was younger when he wrote them.

message 219: by Ron (new)

Ron | 134 comments Sara, the films were exactly the reason I skipped those early books. I thought I'd "been there, done that" based on the movie. I was so wrong. I recently read Doctor Sleep although never The Shining. Can I get Jack Nicholson out of my head?

message 220: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Guys, this thread is for questions pertaining to the group. If you need recommendations or suggestions, please use the Recommendations folder.

message 221: by Robert (new)

Robert Kratky (bolorkay) | 54 comments I'm about two-thirds of the way through the collection,"Skeleton Crew" and the development of his "style" with the short form is riveting. (even though one story made me squirm a bit which, I guess was the intention!) Loved "The Mist", a true King "classic".

message 222: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Please use appropriate folders for book discussions. This thread is ONLY for questions about how the group works or about how Goodreads in general works. It is not for discussions or recommendations. We have many other threads for that.

Off topic posts in this thread will be deleted going forward.

message 223: by Maggiemae (new)

Maggiemae Jesso | 1 comments can anyone tell me the name of the Stephen King book where the in laws are trying for custody of their deceased sons child and there was a shoot out at the end. I think the lady fell in love with the attorney

message 224: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Maggie, this isn't the appropriate thread (it's for questions about the group), but you're probably thinking of Bag of Bones.

Betsy Hetzel | 469 comments Have we ever done a group read of LISEY'S STORY ?

As the group / goodreads as a whole is continually growing, surely the group can repeat group reads?

message 228: by Alaina (new)

Alaina hi!
So one of my co-workers asked me to pick her out her first Stephen King book to read. she's a constant reader, but has never read anything by him. shocking I know!! any suggestions? I'm so torn on what to recommend!

message 229: by Betsy (new)

Betsy Hetzel | 469 comments Hard decision, for sure, since I think that most are great reads but.... I would suggest starting her off with a book w/ a strong female with a compelling story:
DOLORES CLAIRBORNE
MISERY or
GERALD'S GAME. You know, you can't go wrong :)

message 234: by Betsy (new)

Betsy Hetzel | 469 comments Just wondering where to put this question: I "thought" that Weaveworld, Clive Barker was going to be our discussion book for April, 2016 ???? Seems like I have been reading it forever, am only at 75%, but I will finish it.
Anyone else reading it ? Feel the need to say some things about it ? Are these not the kind of books , books that we would recommend to King, that are group reads ? Clueless....

I've read it... you will want to post about it in the Non-King books thread so people can talk about it.

Nathan Gelfi (sharksicle) | 5 comments I feel like I have joined a bit late, and I feel like I have missed some of his better books, I think it would be a good idea to maybe restart sometime to give new members a chance to read the books that the old members have already read.

message 238: by Femmy (new)

Femmy | 195 comments Sharksicle, we will be restarting this December with Carrie, and then go through his list of books chronologically.

I think its the lady from Misery, the vampire is probably from Salem's Lot. Im not sure about the little girl

Rach (reeniebell) | 166 comments I'm very excited that we will be doing rereads of the older works, it'll be great to chat about them.

message 242: by Rach (new)

Rach (reeniebell) | 166 comments I don't know if this is the right place to post, but...

I've seen some really great Constant Reader pin badges on instagram, yet I can't find them anywhere to buy. Does anyone have an idea of where I might find one?

I'm in the UK and there seems to be a distinct lack of SK memorabilia; I'm thinking tote bags etc.

Why not start with the first? As a group we are beginning with his books, in chronological order. Carrie is first.

Yes An join us for the chronological reading of his works. It will be fun and interesting to hear your view on his books. We start next month so you have time to get Carrie and A lot of us have read them multiple times and are always interested in new readers opinions.

message 246: by Aditya (new)

Aditya An Indian start chronologically as others stated. I did the same and I feel I got the most out of my reading experience that way as King often references his past work in his books. Catching the easter eggs is fun and more importantly there is lot of diversity in his early books; straight up horror, science fiction, some drama. Plus the good to bad book ratio is very high, there is only one absolute stinker that I can think of in his early works and it is a very short book. So dive in and enjoy.

Jenny a.k.a....Jenny from the block | 725 comments Question to the group
Since the holidays are quickly approaching; what is your go to gift to give someone?
For me I always give them a book that I truly believe they will enjoy since that’s love.
Happy Holidays to everyone; that’s truly everyone here and beyond. We may not always agree but that doesn’t mean I don’t like you.
Peace to all
Kenny T....

HEY! I want a recommendation.

What should I read next? Sleeping Beauties or Night Shift?

(I'm reading The Shining right now)

message 249: by Aditya (new)

Aditya @Mig Not read Sleeping Beauties but you can't go wrong with Night Shift. It is the best King short story collection IMO.

message 250: by Jerri (new)

Jerri (jeanne25) | 60 comments Night Shift for sure
