Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments lucky for some... I wouldn't mind a holiday. Any room in that suitcase?

message 54: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments What's the betting it's a rucksack? Enjoy the hols, if you haven't gone already.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Remember this is 'Starkers Harker' we are talking about - it may be a nudist camping trip - in which case all he needs is a toothbrush!

message 56: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments on second thought maybe i'll retract my question...

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Erg. And a towel to sit on, I hope!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments If you insist...

message 59: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I'm 14% through (we never used to say that did we?). I bet Jud's finished?
I'll be reading 'The Honour' next.

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments 35% through, saving my thoughts for the discussion thread this time.

Good thinking. I ended up repeating myself on previous occasions and I was scared of committing acts of spoilery! I feel we're getting the hang of this double threads lark of Simon's.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments not quite Ignite but halfway there!! I am so smad, lunch was over at thee most exciting bit so far (for me) and I wont be able to read tonight cause in laws are over and they think I don't like them cause I've been tired this week (yes that doesnt make sense to me either) so have to make an effort and that means forgoing my kindle till they leave :o(

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I love the name Istvan!

message 64: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Nearly as good as Krisztof?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm at only 5%. Don't quite know what to make of it yet but I'll persevere.

message 66: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments I was the same Patti, keep with it,I am now at 60% and at times have had to stop and catch my breath at the beauty in the words,I have even learned to highlight so I can mark them to record in my journal.Certainly a unique reading experience.IMHO.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments The language is certainly...flowery...the football has just started so I'll pick it up again now.

message 68: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I hope the spark ignites for you Patti. Oh, see what I did there?
Like Sarah, I have highlighted phrases that stopped me in my tracks. Not wishing to speak for the author in his absence, I know he feels it appeals to a niche market but I am more evangelistic! I just think it's because people don't know about it.
I would say baroque rather than flowery Patti. I am beguiled by his mode of expression and I suspect I could happily spend an afternoon reading and re-reading his shopping list! (which might be heavy on bacon frazzles?)

Chookgate | 74 comments I have just emailed to ask for the update (found it in orders in the last six months which showed I'd had the book in my tbr list since May!) Ignite, your description makes me want to get started on it now, but I really must finish the treebook I'm reading (10th in a series not on Kindle)

message 70: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Join in when you're ready Chookgate. We won't really start discussing it until we get the Reviews and Spoilers thread, half way through the month.

message 71: by Maureen (Mews) (new)

Maureen (Mews) (mews) | 711 comments Oh noes! I have a dilemma. I made the mistake of starting the sample earlier for this and I was quite literally hooked within the first few pages. Only trouble is that I am halfway through a book right now and I just know I will have trouble going back to it later if I stop.

BUT...I have been thinking of this book all night despite not even having finished all of the sample, and it's been awhile since I have felt this way about a book so early on.

What to do?

message 72: by Angela (new)

Angela (bubblyfish) | 53 comments Oh s***t now I have to read The Moonstone like quick so I can catch up and read this one too! I'm going to be lagging behind forever at this rate!

It sounds really good so I better go add it to my tbr right now :)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Think you better, Angela. I'm seriously hooked now.

message 74: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Finished this morning and downloaded part 2,think I will delay reading it until after the discussion though as I am scared I may merge the two in my head and spoil the debate.Problem is,I don't know if I will be able to resist the temptation.;@(

message 75: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Ha! I've got someone else hooked (a few someone elses maybe?) I've read Book 2 Sarah. You learn much more about the Wanderer in that. I'll say no more other than it's fabulous and there's lots more of that enticing language in there.

message 76: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Thank you Ignite for bringing this book to my attention.
I only remembered about the highlight facility about 40% in,think I may go back and savour the dialogue again as I may have missed something first time round.

message 77: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Oh you are in so deep now Sarah. I did that, then again, then again. Fifth reading and I'm still finding new things to delight me.

message 78: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I finished last night :o) it was awesome!

message 79: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Oh I'm so glad Jud. Wait till you read Book 2 if you think that's awesome!

I can't wait to get to the chat and spoiler thread! There's lots I want to discuss with fellow readers. I don't know anyone else that's actually read it which is such a shame.

message 80: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I tried to write a decent review for the book but there was no way an amateur like me could do it any justice! There is so much in it and I have no idea how to put it into words. I'm looking forward to the discussion too.

message 81: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I think it's extremely decent Jud (just nipped off to read it.) Don't run yourself down. You have really got into the spirit of the book.

message 82: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I'll get better with more practice :o)

Just bought the second book. not sure whether to read it next or not just in case I get confused and give something away in the discussions same as Sarah said!

message 83: by Kath (last edited Nov 07, 2011 01:36AM) (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments We could read it later in the month and have a mini-discussion about that? (Can you tell I'm keen on it?)

message 84: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments we could! or we could just bully simon into making it one of next months group read. Oh next month is December!!! I hope someone picks something Christmassy!!

message 85: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Christmas in the Carpathians? I wonder how fast Cornelius can write?

message 89: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I think Jud loves the name Istvan!
I've nearly finished it for the fifth time. I can't get over how a book full of dark horror can be so beautiful. I think that's down to the author's skill and talent.

message 90: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I didnt mean to post that twice... It must have been my stupid phone that doesnt know what its doing.

message 91: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments oh its posted it again twice more after my initial posting of it. Ah I wondered, I was pretty certain that i posted that more than 12 hours ago. Stupid phone. I get a new one in 2 months thank goodness

message 92: by Maureen (Mews) (last edited Nov 10, 2011 04:03AM) (new)

Maureen (Mews) (mews) | 711 comments Finally started this last night. Resisted downloading it the other day after reading the sample (as much as I wanted to) and finished the book I was reading first, but it was like waiting for Christmas to come!

Haven't got much further yet that what I already read in the sample, but I just know I am going to love this book. Cornelius seems to have a beautiful, almost hypnotic way with words.

Thanks for choosing it Ignite. I actually had the sample on my Kindle for awhile (yikes just realised I have 148 unread samples!) No doubt I would have eventually got around to reading it, but I am glad it's been picked for this months read.

message 93: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Glad you've got started Maureen. After reading it, how could I NOT choose it?
