But if you've got Twilight Eyes, then you can see the goblins plain as day. :)

Where have you been hiding? It seems like you are around a whole bunch for a while and then you go disappear for another while. I think you need to read more Koontz!

Haha thanks! :-)

You know you've been reading too much Koontz when you read the same titles several times in the same year - especially the ones that mess with your mind like False Memory, House of Thunder, and most especially The Key to Midnight. You know who you are!

There is still time to read Hideaway and/or Sole Survivor in September too, if you care to jump on the bandwagon.

So now you're claiming to have written Life Expectancy, eh? Deal!

I plan to order The Land Beyond the Portal within the next 24 hours J.S. :-)

Spoiler alert: There are no hyper-intelligent golden retrievers in it.
Thanks, btw. :]

Is there any teleporting going on in The Land Beyond the Portal - because if there is I think you will have lots of new fans. I'm already committed, but if you've got teleporting you will win over lots of Koontz Kids.

Do wormholes count?

I hope these aren't the kind of shelves that are right over your bed. Somehow these types have a tendency to not be secured properly to the wall and then the books fall on your head while you are trying to sleep and you end up with bruises and it's not a pretty sight...I'm just saying ... something to think about.

Though "scientist" might be a more fitting word.

Wormholes! Alright! J.S., what authors influenced your writing? Might they include the authors C.S. Lewis and Dean R. Koontz by any chance?

This book was written by Dean Koontz :-) but it is still mine. My favorite Dean Koontz book!"
Finished. It very well might be my favorite Koontz book as well. It's original as hell, clever and catches you right from the start. I'm going to post a review tonight or tomorrow :-)

Excellent news Christopher! You are in good company! Have you read By The Light of the Moon yet? Because that is my second favorite Koontz title and one I would highly recommend if you haven't read it yet :-)
I have the words "By the Light of the Moon" tattooed on my right shoulder because the book is so amazing!

This is so awesome that we have 4 amazing people commenting at one time - this hasn't happened in quite a while :-)

Hmm, it's hard to say. I started writing TLBTP before I ever read any Koontz, though I guess he did end up being an influence. In all honesty the only C.S. Lewis book I've read was Out of the Silent Planet. My mother read me the first two Narnia books when I was about 6, but I did see the movie when it came out in 2006 or 2007. The two books that directly inspired my novel were The Merchant of Death by D.J. MacHale and Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry.
These days my biggest inspirations are what I call "the four K's," or Koontz, King, and DeKKer. And Poe. And Roald Dahl. And...
Okay, that's enough for now. I could take all night listing every author I've ever read. :]

Though "scientist" might be a more fitting word."
As long as he wears a lab coat it's all the same."
No lab coat. But he does carry a dagger, which is more badass.

Windmills - Cold Fire. Tell me, you've read Cold Fire Crazy Al, because Cold Fire is my fourth favorite Dean Koontz title. Another good Windmill story can be found by watching the tv show called Pushing Daisies there is an episode in Season One which takes place in a village of retired windmills - very amazing and available on DVD! I love windmills! I have have a tattoo of a windmill because Cold Fire is such an amazing book!

Nope, no windmills. There *is* a graveyard, though, and some lovely stone houses. And a horse or two.

He's a bit aged. He might have looked good when he was younger, but I didn't know him so well then.
I can say no more.

count me in too for reading The Land Beyond the Portal- i can't order it till next month though (i just bought a bunch of books from the bookstore on friday)

I barely remember Life Expectancy- i should probably re-read although i've never re-read a book on purpose before
(dean is probably one of the few authors i'd consider re-reading)

Actually yes I have, but it was so long ago I don't remember it very well. I could probably re-read it and still enjoy it as if it were my first time! I think the ending was (view spoiler)

Crazy Al! You must read Cold Fire by any means necessary. Get it through inter-library loan as soon as possible. Don't listen to this Hannah - is this Hannah the same person as Hanzle Woozle or whatever?

I have an alter ego named Jenn who makes a living selling booze and cigarettes to the denizens of small-town Ohio, so there are actually six people here. Or seven, if you count Awesome Jenn, who is a world-famous rock star and exists only in Alter Ego Jenn's head.

I didn't use to re-read but since I became a Koontz addict I have and of course it's different re-reading because you already know a lot of the mystery so you see things differently - pick up on clues that you hadn't noticed before. I think I have re-read Life Expectancy 3 times or so - I start losing count at that point.

Southwest, to be exact. The terrain is a bit lumpier here, and if I climbed a tree I would be able to see Kentucky from my house.

Yes, Christopher :-) you remember the ending correctly - I loved it. Have you read Cold Fire? Cold Fire, as I mentioned is my fourth favorite Koontz book and I highly recommend it. It has windmills in it!
