Mary Beth (lifelovebooks) | 17 comments Chantal, could it be The Face on the Milk Carton by Caroline Cooney? I think the kidnapper may have been a woman who then gives the child to her parents, but I am not sure I read it years ago.

Kritika (spidersilksnowflakes) I remember reading a children's fantasy series where a group of kids go through a door in a closet or some part of the house (no, not Narnia!). At one point they leave a soccer ball in the fantasy world so some other magical creature slips out into the real world. I believe the fantasy world started with a D, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? It was probably published in the late 90s or early 2000s.

Could it be the Secrets of Droon series, which starts with The Hidden Stairs and the Magic Carpet?

Thanks! That's the right series :)

Jenea (alohanea) | 15 comments I read like half of this book where this girl and her family were going on a road trip (maybe to see her grandmother?) and they get in a car accident. The parents died and the little brother lived (barely, I think) but she's in this in between state. I know the girl played the cello and had this big audition. She also had a boyfriend.

If I Stay by Gayle Forman. I love that book!

message 57: by willaful (new)

willaful This is a really, really obscure one! I read it sometime in the early 80s. Probably before '83, no later than '85. I think it was fairly recent at the time. Pretty sure it was not a well known author, maybe a first book.

It was about a sort of Holden Caufieldish girl who felt very misunderstood, didn't like the world, thought everything was phoney. She meets a boy who's like her -- I can't remember if they fall in love or are just friends. The only detail I really remember is that during a time of stress (maybe their parents are yelling at them) they recite a scene from "The Court Jester" to each other. ("The pellet with the poison's in the flagon with the dragon.")

Alex | 2 comments I read the description to a book that I really want to read, but forgot the title.

It was a ya book about a popular girl that secretly has a crush/falls in love with an unpopular boy that everyone thinks is ugly. I think that they get to know each other through an art class.

that's all I remember. Hope someone can help!

Devonlillie | 1 comments I'm trying to find a book right now but it's been so long and I'm not sure how much of what I remember is accurate:
I only remember certain vague plot points and it's killing me. I think the guy has authority over the girl for some reason like he's a "good kid" and she's a rebel and they're forced together as some punishment for her. The guy is dating someone else for a lot of the book and I remember towards the end the main characters go and get hot chocolate together. I think also the plot revolves around some kind of winter festival or parade or competition in their town. Please help me!! My memory could be playing tricks on me but if you recognize any of these plots it could be the book, Thank you for any help!

Anna | 3 comments I remember reading this one book in elementary school. I can't really seem to recall what the book was about but I do remember certain things from it.

I think it took place in Texas. It was about a boy in elementary school or something who had to participate in a talent show held by his school, so he decided to lip sync to a song which went horribly when the song stopped halfway through the song and he was forced to sing it himself. I also remember the book had some really nice descriptions about food (for some reason, I remember cooking raisins). Also, it's a little random but I do remember a scene where it was his turn to wash the dishes but his older sibling (sister, I believe) complained that when he washed the dishes, they ended up being too soapy because he apparently didn't rinse them off enough.

I've been trying to remember the title of this book but I could never find it.
