The story is taking place in the town of bridewell which is connected from lunenberg the path is secured by a wall that protects the people from the dangerous that are found in the wilderness. The characters are Alexa, Warvold, Kotcher. In bridewell Alexa is trying to outside a wall with a small little telescope and is able to see something move but isn't quite sure what it was. Unfortunately she is caught by kotcher the leader of the guards in bridewell he take the telescope away from her and tells her to not cause any trouble because he will be watching her. After this Alexa goes on a walk with warvold in which he unfortunately dies, Alexa then steels a locket and some keys hoping that she goes outside the other side of the wall to discover what really is out there in the dark hills.
