Lina Maybe not a couple of hours after all...

Here we go

Lina 18. What did you think of the Bravo ceremony? Did you guess what the hidden item was?

19. Are the shared dreams giving you deja vu of Jenna and Mason's special communication?

20. How are you feeling now that you've read their back story? Like them mute, less or about the same? I hasn't recorded that the loss of Ange had left a bigger scar for Chris than the two ex wives. You?

21. Anyone else think Lem is going to cause trouble with the new women?

22. Comments on the funeral?

23. This may sound weird, but it made it more realistic to me that Rosa had a 'set-back' during sec that first time at the cave. Did this add our detract for you?

24. Is Rosa right to be so worried about her position of power versus her relationship with Chris ?

Midu Hadi | 2744 comments 18. What did you think of the Bravo ceremony? Did you guess what the hidden item was?

It was a cute mixture of many things-Rosa said as much. Yep, it HAD to be a book.

19. Are the shared dreams giving you deja vu of Jenna and Mason's special communication?

Kinda yeah.

20. How are you feeling now that you've read their back story? Like them mute, less or about the same? I hasn't recorded that the loss of Ange had left a bigger scar for Chris than the two ex wives. You?

Poor Rosa.I didn't either.

21. Anyone else think Lem is going to cause trouble with the new women?

Yep!

22. Comments on the funeral?

It was practical.

23. This may sound weird, but it made it more realistic to me that Rosa had a 'set-back' during sec that first time at the cave. Did this add our detract for you?

Yes, it made it more real for me.

24. Is Rosa right to be so worried about her position of power versus her relationship with Chris ?

Nope, she's over reacting which means she's protecting her heart.

~Megan~ (megadee) 18. What did you think of the Bravo ceremony? Did you guess what the hidden item was?
I don't know...I thought the ceremony was a bit weird. They almost treated her like she was a deity? I totally knew it was a book...that was sweet!

19. Are the shared dreams giving you deja vu of Jenna and Mason's special communication?
Absolutely! I can't wait to see what kind of crazy connection Penny and Tru are going to have. Can you tell I'm ready for their book? (view spoiler)

20. How are you feeling now that you've read their back story? Like them mute, less or about the same? I hasn't recorded that the loss of Ange had left a bigger scar for Chris than the two ex wives. You?
Chris' backstory was something I wasn't expecting. It was interesting to see how the right woman can change a man. I was pretty much expecting Rosa's, and it was just as horrible as I thought it would be.

21. Anyone else think Lem is going to cause trouble with the new women?
TOTALLY

22. Comments on the funeral?
It was sad...but I still think Rosa is a little too hard. For my tastes, anyways.

23. This may sound weird, but it made it more realistic to me that Rosa had a 'set-back' during sec that first time at the cave. Did this add our detract for you?
Added definitely...made me care a little more about her, and helped me to see that she wasn't completely made of stone. I enjoy a good emotional scene like that one was, and Chris was so patient, which just made me love him more.

24. Is Rosa right to be so worried about her position of power versus her relationship with Chris ?
It's driving me nuts!!! I seriously have issues with the role reversal in this book. Chris seems more of the female than she does, and it turns me off in a big way. Maybe I'm just weird.

Heather (messybar) CaroB's Questions for Chapters 19 – 27

18. What did you think of the Bravo ceremony? Did you guess what the hidden item was?

I thought it was a little over the top, but I liked how Chris put that aside and put on a serious air for Rosa. Rosa is a little full of herself, I think. Yeah, as soon as she made to put the object in the basket, I knew it was a book. Interesting book choice too.

19. Are the shared dreams giving you deja vu of Jenna and Mason's special communication?
Yes, I thought that too!!! Is it just me or is this book just Nightfall in reverse. So many similarities, the whole book was giving me deja vu moments.

20. How are you feeling now that you've read their back story? Like them mute, less or about the same? I hasn't recorded that the loss of Ange had left a bigger scar for Chris than the two ex wives. You?
I liked that we have a better understanding of Rosa, but I thought Chris's whole reaction to Ange was more than it needed to. Didn't really mesh with the 1st book, I guess.

21. Anyone else think Lem is going to cause trouble with the new women?
I think he's a weasel and will cause the girls many problems.

22. Comments on the funeral?
I thought it very respectful, but I wished Chris had been there. I liked Rosa's trust in Chris to do the lookout while it went down, but I wished she has explained it before the funeral and I thought Chris would have gotten a more well rounded view of the town's ceremonies and respect if he had witnessed it.

23. This may sound weird, but it made it more realistic to me that Rosa had a 'set-back' during sec that first time at the cave. Did this add our detract for you?
It didn't detract for me, made her previous experiences more real and prudent to her life now and showed Chris that she is human underneath all the hard veneer.

24. Is Rosa right to be so worried about her position of power versus her relationship with Chris ?
I do not think she gives enough credit to the people in her town. I don't think they would turn their back on her or remove her from power if she and Chris were known. She's so linear in thinking and hard, that it's hard to sympathize for her.

Heather (messybar) @Megan
#19-I had hadn't read the first book in this series, I know I wouldn't read the next one. I'm totally with you on wanting the next book, but this one is not winning any points from me.
#23-Agree with her that it made me like her a bit more, but then she ruined the next day. lol
#24-you are not weird. I'm not liking the traits too much with these too, Rosa more than Chris though.

Heather (messybar) @Anomander
#18-cute and over the top! lol

~Megan~ (megadee) @Heather
#19 - I totally agree with you...not sure I'd continue if this book had been first.
#23 - She ruined it so severely....wait till you get to the end. I wanted to kick her in the teeth about 50 times.

I already finished and I'm completely with you on having wanted to do some damage to our dear, sweet, understanding Rosa!! lol

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments CaroB.’s Questions for Chapters 19 -27

18. What did you think of the Bravo ceremony? Did you guess what the hidden item was?
I thought it was interesting. I would have liked a little more detail about the symbol, maybe the pattern repeated elsewhere. Did Rosa have a tattoo also? I read someone’s review and they dismissed that Rosa would play the “priestess” part, but I found it reasonable. Why wouldn’t she as leader? I didn't guess the item. (!)

19. Are the shared dreams giving you déjà vu of Jenna and Mason's special communication?
Yeah, LOL. But I think they are supposed to – to clue us in that they are “mated.”

20. How are you feeling now that you've read their back story? Like them more, less or about the same? I hasn't recorded that the loss of Ange had left a bigger scar for Chris than the two ex-wives. You?
LOL! Okay, I changed “mute” to “more” b/c I figure you’re on your phone, but it did apply – which made it even funnier! ☺ Got to love autocorrect. It didn’t really change my mind about them. They could have stayed mute. About Ange: I was getting that idea from this book - not from the first.

21. Anyone else think Lem is going to cause trouble with the new women?
Oh, yeah! And it is not just because he’s hormonal.

22. Comments on the funeral?
I thought it was kind of strange that Chris was so hurt about Rosa sending him on guard duty. I figured his reasoning powers were more logical than that. Not to mention his maturity. But then, Rosa was a bit of a b!tch about it, so maybe that is what cause him to mope over it.

23. This may sound weird, but it made it more realistic to me that Rosa had a 'set-back' during sex that first time at the cave. Did this add or detract for you?
No, realistic is the right word for me too.

24. Is Rosa right to be so worried about her position of power versus her relationship with Chris?
Meh. I see where the authors were trying to go with this. At times I understood it and at other I was, like, “Get over it!” It made me “wax and wane” over liking her character.

You'll get the details, don't worry.

Heather (messybar) @Lisa Kay
#22-Good point, he should have thought about it, but after the night they shared, I thought it was understandable for him to be emotional about it.
#24-I think I did more waning and waxing with Rosa. lol

#18 – You’re right; that scene had to be in the book.

#23 – Mind meld!

#24 – I concur.

#18 – You are so clever.

#19 – WHAT! You are! I didn’t think it came out until the 6th.

#20 – Yeah, Rosa’s history was sad/horrible.

#21 – LOL! Yes, the little shite.

#22 – Mine too.

#23 – Mind meld!

#24 – LOL! Okay. ☺ I see your point. I think he could have stayed macho, even if she was determined to wear the pants. My big beef was that he was so changed.

Good point. I hadn't thought of that, but I think I'm with you on this. I would like to read Penny and Tru's story. Well, I wanted to read Chris's story too, but this is an over-hauled Chris; most of the ‘geekadeliciousness’ is gone.

Agree with you on that most of the things we liked about Chris in the first book are sadly missing now.

Midu Hadi | 2744 comments Yep, that's what I told Sans. She has yet to read it.

Heather (messybar) Just throwing this out there:
Daybreak (Dark Age Dawning, #3) by Ellen Connor Buddy Read in January??

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments @ Heather

#18 – I like that Chris too it seriously too. Another clever person. I guess I just didn’t pay that much attention.

#19 – I thought this book was going to be better than the first, that they were struggling with first book and two authors getting in sync syndrome – but it let me down in that way, that it didn’t improve.

#20 – Meh. It was okay with me. Sometimes crisis situations have a way of imprinting on people’s psyches.

#22 – Excellent points.

#23 – True!

#24 –Oh, EXCELLENT points! She didn’t give her people enough credit. And about her linear thinking.

Chapters 37 – epilogue

???

And WHY I ask you? I like a good geek every now and then. I feel like his character is so odd in this book. Sometimes he's geeky, sometimes he's all alpha, and I can't keep up with his bipolar disorder. I guess we could attribute it to his animal instincts awakening, but his moping reminds me of a pimply-faced teen, and his take-charge moments remind me too much of Mason. There is no cohesion. The authors probably said "You write alpha Chris, and I'll write geeky Chris, and then we'll just piece it together."

Heather (messybar) I can do Chapters 37-Epi tonight

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I agree with you TOTALLY, Megan! Every word.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Maybe he was channeling Tru & Mason and NOT Penny, LOL!

Lina I've just been reading back over the comments. It's interesting how most of what we like/dislike about these characters has come about due to the Change. I don't think Chris Welsh would be hero-material, or survived 5 years in the current setting, if he hadn't hardened up from the previous book. I'd say he's a Beta-type hero rather than an Omega-type and definitely not Alpha male. Would you agree?

As for Rosa, I got her. I didn't always like her, but I definitely got her. I thought the characters were a lot better fleshed out in this story than the first, but the action / plot was better with Jenna & Mason.

And I'm really looking forward to Tru and Penny's story :-)

Heather (messybar) Sorry, I was supposed to post some questions last night. Do you all still want me to?

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I agree with you, CaroB. I think that was why I thought this was going to be a solid 4★ read - but the it just lost its momentum. I would have liked Chris to stay with some of his ‘geekadeliciousness.’ I mean, someone like that doesn’t just give it all up unless there is a darn good reason. He still has his microscope even…

Heather (messybar) Good points, CaroB. I was just overall disappointed with all the similarities from this book and the first. I sorta felt that the same problems I had with Mason in the first were some of the issues I had with Rosa here. Also, character reactions, actions and the like didn't always make sense to me.
Overall, it didn't build on the first book, but rather distracted from it. BUT, I'm really looking forward to Penny and Tru.
When do we want to do that Buddy Read? January 9th?

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Heather wrote: "Sorry, I was supposed to post some questions last night. Do you all still want me to?"

Hmmmmmmmmmm... nah! I say we each ask one question (or more) and have a discussion about certain points and call it good. What do the rest of you think?

message 89: by Lina (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lina sure, sounds good to me.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Jan. 9th is good for me. I think. Did you check the RLftCI calendar?

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Calendar is good. Rhapsody Child of Blood (Symphony of Ages, #1) by Elizabeth Haydon starts the 2nd. MLK day is the 16th. I'll set up a thread.

Heather (messybar) Nothing on the calendar, so currently nothing else planned.

I'll ask a question...
What were your reactions to Falco's death? Was it expected? Did you think it was a necessary plot point or a waste (like me)?

Lina What were your reactions to Falco's death? Was it expected? Did you think it was a necessary plot point or a waste (like me)?
I thought it was a waste and a loss for the town to have had the alternate leadership. Definitely came as a surprise. I didn't like Falco greatly, but I didn't dislike him and towards the end of the book was respecting his character.

message 94: by Lina (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I was actually looking for Daybreak (Dark Age Dawning, #3) by Ellen Connor at the bookstore today, even though I know it is not supposed to come out until the 6th. But other people have it. **pouts**

Heather (messybar) I'm glad I wasn't the only one that had those thoughts, CaroB!!

Heather (messybar) Martin Luther King Day, CaroB

That was my first thought/reaction too, Heather. I mean, we knew he wasn't an "all bad" guy and so I just thought, "Huh? Why?"

I do feel that they were better at blending their writing on this one, even with the "little bit bipolar" Chris. They certainly "have something" as I couldn't stop reading the book and keep the "buddy read" pace. Compelling. So, it will be interesting to see where they go in the future with their writing. If they stay together, get better, write a blockbuster, etc.

message 99: by Lina (new) - rated it 4 stars
