Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) What are your views on this subject?

Hylian Princess (hylianprincess) Lying is bad!

message 3: by Catamorandi (new)

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) I agree. I also think that it is a personal affront to me. Someone is sitting there face-to-face with me, and they are lying. That gets into the inside of you. I have, on occasion, told a little white lie and not thought anything of it. However, my best friend informed my that lying is lying and that I am lying. Well, the last thing I want to be right now is a liar, so I shall stop with the supposedly, harmless; little white lies. I really don't like liars very much.

message 4: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments i lie to my mom sometimes. like last night i told her that i want eating ice cream.

but i was!!

XD

message 5: by Court (new)

Court Sumx lying is good( like if it makes some feel better)
Sumx its bad.

message 6: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (JustJessica) | 38 comments The issue with me and lying is that for some stupid reason i can never seem to stop and when i do i'm still accused of lying so i gave up trying to prove anything and let ppl think what they want to think.

message 7: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments yeah. i lie 2 my mom about buying makeup...and about the movie me and my friends are goin 2 see....but i just do it so she dont get mad

:P

message 8: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (v_a_b) Lying in general leads to a whole mess of new lies.

Lying also makes people NEVER believe you, even when you tell the truth.

So, even moral reasons aside, lying is generally bad.

However, lies that don't really matter or are protecting somebody aren't bad. Although...somtimes not total lies, but more of partial truths are better then.

message 9: by Sella (last edited Oct 25, 2008 10:28PM) (new)

Sella Malin I don't like lying, and I try really hard not to. But sometimes I slip and lie to protect myself or someone else/save myself or someone else...but in general, I don't think it's good or okay. I think it's bad and that you should try to lie as little as you can.

And like Roni said, partial/half truths are better than full lies...

message 10: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (JustJessica) | 38 comments Yes, I agree. I lie if I have too. Wait where did the idea of lying even generate from?

message 11: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments ohhhhhhh

im a sinner. but i only lie so my mom dont get mad at me...or if i dont want my sister to know that i ate her lolipop....

but those are petty

:P

message 12: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (v_a_b) Yeah, well, I'm a human and I don't judge "sins" the same way as god would.

Lies aren't as bad as murder. :P

I could find several people who agree with me on that.

message 13: by Riley (new)

Riley (booksarecool) *raises hand*
I agree Roni.

message 14: by Riley (new)

Riley (booksarecool) Oh, and I just got 20! MUAHAHAHA!!!!!

message 15: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments I lie all da time

but not in a bad way....in like the...."no i did NOT just eat yo cookie!"

But in reality...i did.

message 16: by Catamorandi (new)

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) You know, now that I have listened to all of you, I feel that there are times to lie and times not to lie. Like, I wouldn't tell anyone they dress atrociously or if they smelled bad. That isn't lying, because it is an act of mercy. Of course, Grace's example about the Holocaust and hiding Jews is a necessary lie. If you don't lie, the Jew in the basement is dead. There are mercy lies that are necessary. I was listening to my best friend before. I realized that I can think for myself on this matter. You guys make all the sense in the world. Thank you all for opening my eyes on the matter of lying.

message 17: by Chandani (new)

message 21: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (v_a_b) just as long as nobody ends up thinking it stands for opium. that would be bad. :P

message 22: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (v_a_b) Yeah, opium is made from poppies. :) how fun!

message 23: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments yeah, so DONT EAT A BAGLE THE DAY B4 UR DRUG TEST!!!!

lol

message 24: by Eric▲ (new)

Eric▲ | 716 comments LIES CAN CREATE A PARADOX!!!!!!!

for an example, tell me if this is true or false

"I AM LYING"

message 25: by Eric▲ (new)

Eric▲ | 716 comments THUS A PARADOX!

message 26: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments Response to Eric:

WEll i dunno.
are you?

message 27: by Eric▲ (new)

Eric▲ | 716 comments if i am, i am talling the truth, resulting thusforth in lying. This means i didn't lie, henc therof, a conclusion that im not. but then thats the truth, so i DID lie, and resulting in a concluding assumption that i wasn't. this means that if i DID lie, as i said i did, i WOULDN"T be lying. so then i WOULD. this all results in the answer. the answer is achieved by reversing the inverse of the previewiously counter acted inversion of the opposite of the foresaid anti-answer, then invertingit, inversing it, and rotating it 180 degrees, lowering it's temperature 260 degrees and thus achieving an inverse of said answer. all that remains is inversing it...

message 28: by Eric▲ (new)

Eric▲ | 716 comments a paradox will confuse you, and if you are a problem solver you will search for the answer untill you find it

message 29: by Eric▲ (new)

Eric▲ | 716 comments CORRECT!!!!!!!!!!!

message 30: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments OMG MY DAD WAS IN THAT MOVIE!!

message 33: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments hes not that famous really...more underground Rapper ish. But he aslo acts. he was in Be kind rewind with Jack black recently

message 34: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments Lol, in Be Kind rewind he was The video store keepers son, basicly the main character.

And in The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, he was the Hitchhiker, like the second to main character. Hes been in other movies too but those are the most famous.

message 35: by Kenzie (new)

Kenzie That's so cool! So he's like ... famous!

message 36: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments well hes kinda famous not that much really.

lol

message 37: by Ailis (new)

Ailis | 227 comments I know this has nothing to do with Lying- well sort of- but it's because I don't know how to start a new subject... scratch that! I want to start a new subject about Twilight. I'm willing to start the battle about how bad it is vs. the 99% of girls who in passionate love with the series- vomit.
Although I know you have a right to read and like whatever you want so no offense to YOU- just to the BOOK.
Don't mind my critisism- you didn't write it! :)

message 38: by Ailis (new)

Ailis | 227 comments OK you pretty much all say that lying is horrible- and I agree, but there are two exceptions-
1. I think you should leave out some of the story or not give the whole truth sometimes to rotect people but not flat out lie. Ignorance is Bliss.
2. Here's something to get you lie haters thinking. A little kid draws a horrible drawing of you that is a scribble. "Do you like this dwawing? It's really good, right? I made it especially for you!" etc etc. What do you say? "No, it sucks"? I HOPE NOT

message 39: by Court (new)

Court Well, I love the series, but I could see how people would think its bad. But then again, it might just not be a kind of book that you would like..

message 40: by Chandani (last edited Feb 25, 2009 02:18AM) (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments I used to love it. Like i was OBSESSED. I never really liked Edward though. So after i read the three i was waiting for BD, and i read some other books...some GOOD books....and now i HATE IT. Breaking Dawn was the wordst experience in my LIFE!!!

UGH UGH UGH!!! MY HEAD HURTS JUST THINKING ABOUT IT!!!

*BLECH*

message 41: by Ailis (new)

Ailis | 227 comments IK totally same! and no Steph Meyer is just a horrible writer. I mean its like lets be honest domething we would right as a first draft its like it was an accident it got published!

message 42: by Ailis (new)

Ailis | 227 comments dont worry i'm not a spoiler and i dont think its mean- its harsh but she really isnt very good
especially in comparison to JK Rowling

message 43: by Eric▲ (new)

Eric▲ | 716 comments you know what?
i'm going to give twilight a try.
as soon as i finish Douglas Adams' books...

message 44: by Eric▲ (new)

Eric▲ | 716 comments actualy, i'm going to try it next because i just finished Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Angency.

message 45: by Ailis (new)

Ailis | 227 comments Its ok i never said its bad to like her or her books its MY OPINION but can i persuade you otherwise. i mean everyone thinks potter series is so dorky or something cuz its about wizards. but when i read it, i hardly acknowledge the funky names and things or magic because she writes as if this happened to her and she turned the impossible into a realistic book

message 46: by Ailis (new)

Ailis | 227 comments not really. she made them like humans, but she made the character SO UNREAL. and i don't think its her ideas. i mean, most is just the same as interview with a vampire by anne rice- a good book- only she had to throw in a crappy character and she has to be stripped down to nothing with a random obsessiion with someone who starts out hating her guts.

she did sucseed with vampires but i just think she made bella so shallow and unreal, and since its centered around her, the story is unreal

message 47: by Ailis (new)

Ailis | 227 comments yeah but would you JUMP OFF A CLIFF??? I wouldn't and i did like the vampires, just not bella

message 48: by Ailis (new)

Ailis | 227 comments yeah but she said basically she didn't mind risking her life just to hear someone's voice

on my bucket list too! :))

message 49: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments ............................................i wouldnt....i would go see a doctor about the voices......

message 50: by Kenzie (new)

Kenzie In response to message 61: You think she's worse than J.K. Rowling? What? Because she didn't get as much publicity as Rowling?

Personally I think she's way better than Rowling. More descriptive and makes you feel like you're there, in the scene.

Rowling's writing now, looking back on it (I was obsessed for 5 years or so), just seems really bad. It's not very well written, yes the story has a good plot, but it's so dry. Doesn't make me feel like I'm in the book at all.
