Once Upon A Time
Sounds really logical to me. I really enjoyed the episode where we found out why Regina hates MM so much. The child they found to play Snow really looks as if she could have grown up to look like MM. And it was nice to see Regina as a good person!
Holli wrote: "I'm also wondering if he (August) is the young boy who found newborn Emma on the side of the road..... "Interesting, Holli. That would make sense (I actually read the spoiler for once.)
I missed the episode that explained why Regina hates MM so much. I simply assumed because MM is so good and pure and gets attention while Regina has to work hard for attention got under the evil woman's skin. Thanks for the spoiler, too!
Once Upon A Time won Favorite New Show and The Evil Queen is Favorite New Villain in TV Guide's Fan Favorites Vote!!In the article they writers say " we have a finale planned that is going to be so unexpected that the audience will be left wondering what just happened" and "Emma's arc of disbelief will be resolved this season". Also, "there is going to be a showdown between Regina and Emma over Henry and some heated moments between Regina and Mr. Gold. The audience will have to decide for themselves who is more powerful..."
I am glad the actress was voted Favorite New Villain. I hope she gets a nomination for her acting she is so good.
The mystery of who the Stranger is will soon be revealed on Once Upon a Time!August W. Booth (Eion Bailey), a writer only initially known as "the Stranger," made his way to Storybrooke earlier this season. His very presence is significant since the curse prevents people in the town from leaving, and apparently Emma (Jennifer Morrison) was the only outsider to come there before him.
His arrival — especially after he added pages to Henry's fairy tale book — has sparked many debates as to who he actually is. Theories range from suggesting that he's Rumplestiltskin's son or perhaps Henry's father to even his being an older version of Henry, which would be awkward since the Stranger is seemingly attracted to Emma, Henry's mom. To get the scoop on who the Stranger is, TVGuide.com turned to writer and consulting producer Jane Espenson, who penned this upcoming Sunday's episode "The Return" (8/7c, ABC) and also offers up some juicy teases for the Season 1 finale.
There are many theories out there about the Stranger. Our best guess is that he's Pinocchio, based on the lemurs in Nepal clue — which proved he was a liar — and the sudden lockup of his (possibly wooden) leg. What can you say about the clues? Were they too obvious or are we assuming too much?
Jane Espenson: Those are definitely clues, but are they clues that we put in there so that you would later go, "Oh my God, it was Pinocchio!" or are those clues we put in there to make you think he's Pinocchio when in fact, we're planning an elaborate mislead. It's very hard to say at this moment. I've seen the theory that he's Maleficent (Kristin Bauer), which is fascinating! There's more than one way to [give a] clue.
You're going to see Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) have his own theory about who he is, which raises questions of its own. If he were Rumplestiltskin's son, wouldn't the son recognize him, for example? But wait! Memories are gone! It gets very complicated.
It's a complicated mystery and we're going to go a good way's down the path towards solving it this Sunday.
Are there clues that you guys planted that fans have missed?
Espenson: I don't think so, but sometimes people see clues that we didn't intend. There's a very interesting one that you see very early on in "The Return" episode. Look to see what August's paperweight is. Keep an eye out for that.
Could he have been the young boy who found her by the side of the road?
Espenson: That's a very interesting question. We know from the newspaper headline that a 7-year-old found her on the side of the road. The age seems to work out; It could've been him, but we've got more than one character who's about the right age for that to have been him.
What can you tell us about this Sunday's episode?
Espenson: The main drive is Rumplestiltskin trying to figure out who August is. At the same time, we're seeing events of him in fairy tale land with his son, where the son doesn't really approve of how his father is changing and is trying to make him take a different path. The cool thing is that really both of these memories exist at the same time in Mr. Gold's head; he knows that he is pursuing August and he knows he is remembering his son because, unlike many of our characters, he actually remembers his previous life in fairy tale land. You're actually going to see Mr. Gold go to Archie (Raphael Sbarge) the therapist, because he's going to be quite shaken by what he's learning. It's going to shake him up a bit.
A recent promo for upcoming episodes showed the town rallying against Regina (Lana Parrilla), who was tied to a tree, and it looked like her head was going to be taken off with a sword. What can you tell us about Storybrooke's drive to figure out who they are and finally get out from under Regina's reign?
Espenson: If this town ever figures out who they are, Regina is in trouble, and that's exactly what you saw there, is the sort of trouble that might be in Regina's future. As we head towards these last few episodes, the dominoes are going to start falling. This season finale is one of the best hours of TV I've ever seen. It blows the doors off. Garments of people's clothing are going to fly off from the sheer force of their delight and surprise at what's going to be revealed in the season finale. Nothing is held back. The next couple episodes are going to be carefully laying some groundwork for a big, big metaphorical explosion at the end of the year.
How will August help the town in that regard?
Espenson: Whoever August is, he came from outside, which is fascinating, and he's come with information. We saw him messing with Henry's book. It sure looked to me like he was adding pages to Henry's book, so I would look to Henry's book for the way that he helps the town.
What about the giant green wormhole that we also saw in an earlier version of that same promo? Where does that lead?
Espenson: Generally, portals on our show lead between lands. They lead between fairy tale land and our land, or between, as we saw, fairy tale land and Wonderland. There were a lot of doors down there, so it looks like there's a lot of different lands you can get to.
Now that we know Kathryn (Anastasia Griffith) is actually alive, how will that play out since Mary Margaret (Ginnifer Goodwin) had been accused killing her, but David (Josh Dallas) didn't stand by her side?
Espenson: Returning Kathryn solves a lot of problems for David and Mary Margaret, in that Mary Margaret is not going to be subject to capital punishment, so that helps them. Your relationship is a lot better when one of you has not been executed for crimes they didn't commit. But it doesn't solve the big problem, which is that he did not stand behind her. This curse is making David make some pretty bad choices, if you ask me. They still have a lot to overcome. I would not expect them to tie it up all neatly in a single scene. I think they're going to need a couple scenes to get through this, but I would suggest that by the end of the season, as a romantic, I like to think that true love tends to win on our show.
August Wayne Booth - "the stranger's" full nameI'm in the middle of watching last nights episode and hand to make that note somewhere.
What happened to the rest of my post? Oh well. I was in the middle of watching the latest episode and I thought it some kind of clue when Emma and Gold were talking about "the stranger" and Gold said "August Wayne Booth, I know names and that is not his real name."
Whoa that's a provocative interview. I haven't watched much of the season but I'm excited to see the finale.
Myra wrote: I just wanted to slap Emma when she went to the tree with August and then wouldn't believe him. And how she left.
I've become very disappointed in Emma's character. I feel she started of strong, tough and sharp minded. She was a bounty hunter after all. And now she seems so nieve and trusts so easily.
I know it's frustrating, but if Emma believed August, then the curse would end and the show would be over. lolAs for Emma's character, I'm not liking how she is suddenly so focused on getting Henry away from Regina. She's going to really screw things up.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind if it was just one season if it was done well. I'm getting really sick of Regina doing all kinds of evil things and getting away with it, it's getting boring. I like the stories of fairytale land but not the real world mainly because of Regina. I'd be OK with Emma believing the curse and breaking it right now.
Yeah, I think the networks drag out shows too long because they want the viewers to keep watching so they can make more money. I would rather watch a planned series that ends at a certain point. I'm hoping they tie up things for this show at the season ending. This last episode was pretty good--what about Regina trying to kiss the Prince? Talk about an awkward moment when he pulled away.
That was awesome when he pulled away. Ha! Not knowing who he really is, he instinctively knows she's repulsive. Even her kid hates her. Everyone hates her. What about when MM said she forgives her, and all that about how she must be so lonely?
I hope these things give Regina something to think about.
I agree wih Jackie about it getting boring with Regina always getting away with stuff although that seems to be causing some build up of annoyance within the characters. Because more people seem to know she did X but don't have proof to support it. I loved when MM played the killer-her-with-kindness card.
I'm not sure the curse would end if Emma believed what August told her. We don't know HOW she can break the curse, just that she's the one person who can. The search for how could take a whole other season! And then keeping Regina from finding out that Emma knows would provide plenty of suspense for the stories. But I agree with Jackie that there's nothing wrong with one season if the story is finished and it was well done.
Myra said: "I'm not sure the curse would end if Emma believed what August told her. We don't know HOW she can break the curse, just that she's the one person who can. "That is a great point, Myra! AND there is something else to consider, when the curse is broken will it send everyone back to Fairytale Land? Do people of a choice? If not, perhaps Emma would hesitate doing that because even once everyone else's memories are restored, Emma still only has memories of "real world". She may NOT WANT to go to Fairytale Land.
And would her son continue to exist? He was born in the "real world" to Emma and the father was most likely a "real world" person. If there's any chance she would lose her son, I don't think she would want to break the curse.
Those are good point and real dilemmas but it would bore me to death real quick. I'm losing patience with all the shows that drag things out. Tell a story, get to the point and be done with it. This is why I like British TV better, a much shorter season, they get to the point and they don't drag series out for years unless they're really good and have more stories to tell. In the US, they drag one story out way too long.
That's because in the US all the networks care about is making money and apparently the viewers here are gullible enough to fall for it. :)There are so many possibilities for this show, but the writers need to get to a point, hopefully by the season end.
The US is all about making money in every way on every level. You're right that people fall for it, that's why they can keep doing it. People accept it, they're gonna keep doing it.What really drives me nuts is when the US remakes Brit TV shows, they take one season and drag it out and in the process totally ruin it. Brit TV is far superior to ours, yeah we have the bigger budgets to make things look more 'wow' but 'wow' ain't keeping me interested for very long. What I really want is quality writing, like on Doctor Who, the writing cannot be beat by any show, any time, any where, any when. Love my DW.
That was my fear with this show in particular -- what will sustain it past a season without losing viewership? It cannot be Regina, Regina, Regina. There has to be more to have the audience at the edge of their seats. Even soaps have a way to keep you guessing.
Jackie, I'm moving this to the cult folder unless you think it should just be in Drama :) You decide!
I think Cult/Scifi is a wise choice. I'm so happy it's renewed. Out of all the new shows, this one and Revenge are my favs.
I heard a radio interview with Gennifer Goodwin about the finale, she said if you are not caught up on episodes CATCH UP BEFORE THE FINALE. She said their is a shock in the finale that you WILL hear about after it airs. She said it is excellent, it's not necessarily a twist but more of a shock to which way they are taking things. Hurray on the pick-up news! Thanks Holli.
That wasn't much of a shock. (view spoiler) With that being said, it really was a fantastic series and I enjoyed it.
I agree the finale wasn't much of a shock... I was more shocked when Henry ate the turnover to prove he was right. I loved that Emma's love was true and I thought they did a great job with the finale for this season. I'm excited to see what next season brings.... new characters and stories, might be fun if some people still remember and others don't, or if they all remember but are stuck there.... could be interesting.
The second season could be about trying to find a way back to Fairytale land. But I'm thinking it starts all over again, everyone forgetting. Seeing new fairytale stories would be pointless otherwise, it would be just to tell them, and would serve no purpose to further the story. Well, we have no choice but to hope for spoilers and to wait for the next season and see what it brings.
Jackie, you are usually right about a series being extended too long. I think the game changer at the end was that Mr. Gold brought magic into the town. With magic, I guess anything can happen. Regina had a smile on her face so I suppose that magic would give her an advantage. I would have liked to see them go back to Fairytale land.
I forgot about Regina's cat-that-ate-the-canary smile! You're right about magic; I hope that's it and that they can continue with another good storyline.
I agree the ending wasn't as shocking as I was thinking. I'd been saying that Emma has been getting wimpy but that scene when she grab Regina and told her that Henry ate the turn over was awesome! But then she looked whimpy again when fighting the dragon. They really need to stop putting her in the damn jeggings. They just don't say tough chick.I suppose the shock is supposed to be that they don't all go back. Next season could be interesting because they will all be in the "real world" but with magic. It brings up some questions:
- will they all stay in there "real world" forms/selves?
- will they be able to leave and strangers come in?
- will they also keep their "real world" memories? how will having their fairytale memories on top of that effect them?
I do have one question about the ending....did the clock stop again? I couldn't tell if it was supposed to be stopping or if they were showing that despite the curse being broken time continued.
Oh and how weird is the world going to become for Henry and Emma who didn't exsist in the Fairytale World so magic is completely new to them.
The clock stopped, which made me think Mr Gold reinstated the curse. And the same purple fog, and he's the one who made up the original curse. And now he's crazy pissed off too.Emma existed in Fairytale land, only she didn't stay there very long.
I don't know what's gonna happen to Henry if everyone eventually goes back to Fairytale land. He's Emma's so he's part fairytale-lander but who's the father? And whoever he is, what does that mean for Henry? Will Henry be able to cross between worlds if his father is human?
I totally agree about kickass Emma, then wimpy Emma. Mostly she's been wimpy though. Even with Regina, she pushed her around but nothing compared to what I'd have done if it was my kid that happened to, in the very least she's be black and blue from head to toe, but more likely dead.

Good theory about the boy who found her.
But where has he been all this time?
