Chronicles is hard to get into but it does get easier. I liked it.

Sasha Sinclair (SashaSin) | 1 comments Just finished reading A Sealed Fate, which is a great read of you are looking for something very different..certainly not a conventional thriller at all.

Been such a cold winter in NYC, so I loved th fact that ASF was set in the hot climates of Dubai and Cape Town. This certainly is a book where the author with her affirnity for place will transport you to another world. Not only will your mind be taken on a journey to physical places, but your soul will go on a journey to, as the book's theme is that age old battle between fate and freewill. The guiding theme is wrapped up in a psychological thriller which thinks out the box, never mimmicks and always surprises. The author takes us on leisurely tours of the City State's night spots and its haute cuisine; we rub shoulders with the beautiful and rich but we never travel far from that naqging question of destiny and the price you have to pay to change it. The work builds up to a tense and truly novel conclusion. All in all a cracking debut with some very good stuff going on in there.

I highly recommend it:)

A Sealed Fate A Sealed Fate by Lisa Gordon

Started Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon today. I honestly don't think it's going to be for me. I don't want to give up... but why is it over 800 pages?? It always seems like the books I love are too short - and the ones I don't like are way too long!! Sort of like the song you hate and it never ends! Lol.

message 4663: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I've recently finished reading The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway by Ernest Hemingway and Lean Mean Thirteen (Stephanie Plum, #13) by Janet Evanovich by Janet Evanovich.

The Old Man and the Sea
I enjoyed this book. At 127 pages, The Old Man and the Sea was a quick read. I managed to read the entire novel in just under an hour. It was a touching and thought-provoking tale. I admired Santiago's determination and his refusal to let his spirit be broken. I loved Ernest Hemingway's writing style. I thought it was very similar to John Steinbeck's style (who is my favourite author by the way). Although it is a very short novel, the story got quite slow and repetitive in places. It is a good novel but I honestly didn't think it was worthy of the Pulitzer Prize it won in 1953.
My full review is here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Lean Mean Thirteen
I enjoyed this book but I didn't think it was anywhere near as good as the previous instalment, Twelve Sharp. The plot was predictable and virtually nothing happened in it to develop the characters further. I'm getting tired of the love triangle with Joe Morelli and Ranger and I wish Stephanie would finally choose one of them or else dump them both and date someone new! Janet Evanovich has let this go on for far too long and now there's no sexual tension left between the characters.

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 239 comments Fiona (Titch) wrote: "I found Heathcliff to be obnoxious, appalled by his behaviour and the treatment he received before the adopted parent had died."

I disagree. Heathcliff started out alright it was his awful treatment by Hindley and in some part Catherine which lead to his bad behaviour.

He had nothing, he was a foundling and he was lower class and he knew it. Not even Catherine, who loved him, would marry him as it would demean her. That is a lot to deal with. I am not sure it justifies his later behaviour but it does explain it, in part. Personally I like Heathcliff, but then I tend to like antiheroes. I find Linton a snob and rather wet, and Hindly much the same.

I am not sure you are supposed to like him, judging on when it was written Heathcliff is likened to the devil enough times. I don't think he ever redeems himself but he does pay the price for his lost love.

Each to their own:) I love WH, it is one of my fav books but for sure it is not an easy or happy read and although Young Cathy and Hareton end up ok it is rough ride for everyone. I would not describe it as happy ever after.

Then will start Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles, #2) by Marissa Meyer - And hope this one does not end like the first one did.
