Got it. Thanks for clearing that up! So you can check "no" for book club when you're making your account and it still works :)

Yep, that's me: Clear as mud. ;) It works great though and I think it will be lots of fun.

Anagha Uppal | 511 comments Mod

Mlpmom (Book Reviewer) (mlpmombookreviewer) | 191 comments So do we check the No option then? Or would you rather have us say yes?
Sorry, I just don't want to do it wrong. :P

Anagha Uppal | 511 comments Mod
No problem, MlpMom, 'no' is tried-and-true, but I would guess that yes would work too, especially if you have other clubs you're a part of and want a page for them

Mlpmom (Book Reviewer) (mlpmombookreviewer) | 191 comments Okay, I am all set up then!

Heidi (heidirainydayramblings) I am just curious how many of you participate in In My Mailbox...I am tossing it around and right now thinking no and hear is why ...I have been following blogs and when I see some of the posts showing everything someone got in their mailbox it makes feel kind of bad. I think well that is great for you but you don't have to rub it in. I mean do you feel that it makes your readers happy when you say oh look what the publisher sent me....I don't know maybe I am reading to much into this...Maybe we ought to think of our own creative group meme thoughts?

Veronica Morfi (vmorfi) | 464 comments I do something like it almost every week...I never thought of it as rubbing it in, but well I only recently started requesting from NetGalley, so everything I got I had to buy it...
I think it's a nice way to find out what books people get and possibly discover something you want. :)

Veronica Morfi (vmorfi) | 464 comments BTW I just finished Every other day and I'm off to write my review!

Veronica that is great the way you do it but I have honestly seen a few blogs out there where they have all these books they received from publishers and some actually make comments that are totally along the lines of rubbing it in. Then I wonder what are you doing with all these books because they certainly aren't offering that many giveaways in comparison to the books they recieve. This is me if I start receiving a bunch of books unless they are autographed personally to me or it is the most awesome book ever I am all for giving them away to my blog readers. I saw an idea by a blogger on here offering to send her ARC on tour to people anxious to get their hands on it. That might be something fun to do. I guess I am picking you guys' brains for new, creative ideas to do on our blogs that are different than IMM that everyne does, I think I have convinced myself not to do it but still want to hear what you guys think.

I will go read it now.

Veronica Morfi (vmorfi) | 464 comments The idea of making an ARC tour is really great, if you can actually send the book from person to person, since we all live in different places in every side of the world.
Besides, all my ARCs are ebooks...:P
And now that I think about it, I wonder if it's even legal to send out books that are not yet published and that the publishers send only to you and a few others... I could be wrong but it doesn't seem so.

Well I will look into it. I know it isn't wrong to give them away after they publish you just don't ever want to sell them. Besides once you read them are you going to keep them all? I would rather pass them onto readers but yes I hear you most are ebooks and those I can't pass on.

Veronica Morfi (vmorfi) | 464 comments I could never give away any of my books. Even if there is no room for them and I have to stack them on chairs or the floor (I am getting closer and closer to this point :P)
I just really love them all, and even after getting my e-reader I have considered also buying the paperbacks, but fortunatelly I stop myself!

You make me laugh. I have gone to almost all ebooks that way I can have 3,000 someday on my Kindle and even then more because you can pull them off and store them too. I don't think I would ever have room in my house for 3000 books. I used to keep them all but then I just got to the point where I knew I would never read some again too many good ones out there waiting to be read so I would much rather pass the love onto someone else.... a book isn't doing anyone any good sitting on the shelf collecting dust right?

Veronica Morfi (vmorfi) | 464 comments ...
Talking about shelves and dust, I have to admit I love cleaning my books...:P Every weekend I empty my shelves and clean each book, and then put them right back to their place.
I know I'm never gooing to read any of them again, my to read list is big enough, I can't start re-reading any of them, maybe one or two, but all the other books are just there to make my shelves look good and make me feel at peace everytime I glance their way and let my self get lost in the memory of their stories. I can't give this feeling up, not yet at least.
It is my dream to make a house where my study will be full of bookshelves filled with books. So, I'm going to need books to fill them!

Michele at A Belle's Tales (chelesbells1) I actually love seeing what other bookish friends got in the mail! I'm super excited for them, plus it gives me new books to add to my TBR. I never saw it as 'rubbing it in'. They have been blogging for years and I think our patience and persistence will pay off, and then we'll be able to share pictures of our good fortune! Believe me, I have been drooling over swag for nearly a year now and am just now receiving books in the mail from authors and having requests accepted. I only won my first contest two nights ago, and I have lost count of how many I have entered. LOL. I think it is a personal choice... but don't hate me when I post a pic of my winnings on my blog. :D Oh, and Veronica: I have books on my Nook that I had to go and buy the actual book of, because it was either a favorite or just too pretty to not have on my bookshelf! LOL! :D

message 277: by Heidi (new) - rated it 4 stars

Heidi (heidirainydayramblings) Ok I am glad to hear you guy's thoughts on it. I guess it is all in the way it is handled. I have just seen one particular blogging who isn't very tactful about it. I would never ever think that about you ladies. I guess I just got irritated with that one blogger.

Mlpmom (Book Reviewer) (mlpmombookreviewer) | 191 comments I don't participate in it, not really any reason why I guess other than most of the books I have gotten have also been e-books.
I do envy some of the bloggers connections with publishers though. It would be nice to get all those fantastic books in the mail for free. I am sure it feels like Christmas when they open them up each week. :)

starryeyedjen I see IMMs (which I participate in, just not very frequently these days) not as a way to rub my good fortune in others' faces but as a way to promote and spread the word about books I'm ecstatic about. That's what book blogs are all about, after all. As long as the blogger is reviewing and sharing their opinion about said ARCs and e-gallies, I don't see any harm in this practice. And there are many bloggers, like myself, who include purchased books in their IMMs. If I have extra copies of a book, I'm all for sharing, but like others have mentioned, I love having shelves and shelves of books. I sometimes even buy hard copies of the ebooks I read, just because I like how they look on my shelves. (And also 'cause I'm impatient, and sometimes, when I'm waiting on a preorder to arrive, I'll download the Nook book to satiate myself. I have a problem...Michele can vouch for me. :P) Anyway, I guess my point is, I don't want you to have hard feelings toward a blogger, no matter how well-established they are, simply because they receive free books in advance of publication. Because I'd be willing to bet they're still buying a lot of their "fun, not-for-review" reads, just like the rest of us.

Anagha Uppal | 511 comments Mod
Heidi, I stopped doing those partly because I kind of felt the same way, and partly because I got comments like "can't wait to read your review of such and such" but I couldn't get to some of then for weeks or even months. My TBR depends a lot on my upcoming blog tours and tour reviews, so the Imm didn't help me any plus it just kind of felt like a waste of time. Not that I don't like to read others' IMMs

V, I totally get what you said about looking back at the books and reliving those memories I feel the same way!

message 281: by Heidi (new) - rated it 4 stars

Heidi (heidirainydayramblings) Thanks girls for all your input. Jeanette I get what you are saying and it all goes back to the way the blogger handles themselves. Lesson is just always be polite to your readers and everyone else. I think what got me thinkng about it was all the buzz going around GR about Hallowed and I read a post by someone who felt like some people were rubbing their arcs in the faces of those who had to wait to buy it...and then I got to wondering if that was how people felt about IMM. Thanks girls.
One more question do you guys highlight and make notes of your favorite quotes and parts while reading?

Veronica Morfi (vmorfi) | 464 comments Heidi I highlight only on ebooks, print books are sacred for me. But even in ebooks, I barely remember to highlight, cause I'm usually lost in the story~

Anagha I kind of learned to ignore any comments like that, cause sometimes I'll buy a book feeling ready to read it and then other books will come up, or my mood will change and I'll get to it after months or years...

Mlpmom When I got approved for my first galley I was really excited, surprised (I thought there was no way in hell I'd got it), but excited! Of course it'd be so much more cooler if it was a print version but I couldn't care less...I don't think I'm ever going to get print galleys so I take what I can get! :)

Heidi, for ebooks, yes, I love to! Quotes, notes, comments everything! Well, on print, i do sometimes pull out the sticky notes. Sometimes I write my reviews a week, two weeks after finishing the book, so i wouldn't be able to write reviews otherwise!

Thanks girls. I just recently really started using the highlight feature. I love clipping quotes and on Kindle it saves them it is fun to go back and thumb through the fantastic quotes. I also find it extremely helpful when writing reviews. I am just toying around w an idea..for the clippings.

Mlpmom (Book Reviewer) (mlpmombookreviewer) | 191 comments I never thought about using that feature to help with reviews, that is a really good idea!
I only use it once in a great while but maybe I should use it more. I love seeing what others have highlighted (I know some people don't but I actually do).

Ali it totally helps you to remember points and I even type notes with ideas for my reviews.

Mlpmom (Book Reviewer) (mlpmombookreviewer) | 191 comments I think I should try that especially since it sometimes takes me a few days before I get around to reviewing a book I read. It would help me remember things and quotes.

Michele at A Belle's Tales (chelesbells1) Nook has awesome features for blogging. I confess, I only just started taking advantage of them, but it is definitely making the reviewing process a lot easier. The incredible imabookshark blog just posted an interview with me today! I am so honored and hope you girls will check it out and lend your support:
http://networkedblogs.com/pTi3j
This is something you guys might be interested in doing with each other to help get your blogs out there! :)

It will help you tremendously! Just reviewing highlights and notes helps me gather my thoughts for a review especially if it has been a few days.
