If you could change anything in The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay, what would you change?

According to the book, she shot Coin because she was basically the same thing as President Snow. Both having dictatorial tendencies. Remember the conversation Katniss had with President Snow in the... Green room? He told her that it was all a power struggle between him and Coin. They both died anyways so it doesn't really matter.
I didn't think that Cinna, Finnicks or Prims death was necessary :(

I think Prim's was necessary. It showed that you could keep fighting, fighting for something, only to have it crumbling in your helpless hands.

Why? Okay, so in the beginning she was helpless and stuff, but in MJ she showed her worth. She was a real comfort to Katniss during those sleepless nights. She reassured her, but made perfect sense.
I don't know why. She was described by the author just as much as buttercup was (very little)

What? Are you questioning my devotion to Peeta? Peeta is amazing. Period. I could list a 100 more, but I don't feel like it. PLus, I consider myself his #1 fangirl..I have gone around with "I <3 Peeta" on my face before..

and yet.......i wish i was always team.....liking peeta better so I could be satisfied with the ending
I was not satisfied with the ending...Well leme say it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sad..I'm still crying about it! (Peeta's you-know-what)

ok ill try again...I was more sad about how rushed the ending was. It was almost like Suzanne collins ran out of pages so she made Gale go to district 2 and Peeta marry Katniss.

I think I would change the fact that Finnick died. I really wish he didn't. I was so heart broken when I found out he was still down there after Gale climbed out. To speak the truth, when I read that Peeta was going up the ladder right after Katniss, I thought of Gale first, wondering if he would make it out okay. When Katniss tries to go down again, Gale is coming up and I feel a wash of relieve go through me and I totally forget the others. I usually look for Katniss, Peeta, and Gale to confirm they are alive in these situations. Then as I read on, and Finnick was still down there I felt guilty because I had totally forgotten about him and the others, especially when he was about to die, and all the flashbacks occurred. I just felt awful. I wasn't very happy about Prim dying and wish she hadnt. I was very sad when Prim died, and I thought, why did Prim have to die of all people? I also get the feeling that if Prim hadn't died though, Katniss wouldn't have felt those emotions and made the decision to kill Coin (I think).
Prim did not have to die! It was pointless! It made it seem like Katniss did all she did for nothing!

To show that you can work so hard to perserve something or someone and then the person suddenly escapes from your grasp. It also brings out the horrible horrible death of the children from the bombs. And the second round of bombs that killed Prim.
I would change these things:1) finnick doesn't die
2) rue and prim don't die
3) buttercup's features
4) Katniss ending up w/gale instead of peeta

i would change Finnick's and Cinna's deaths too. i wish prim hadn't died but i feel like if she didn't then Peeta and Katniss wouldn't be together
Well Gale would of gone off into another district to be more involved in the recontruction...Katniss sorta wanted a break from that..Peeta was that break :)

i agree... dont get me wrong, i liked that she did it. but it seemed like a little much. i wanted to wonder what had happened to them. had they had kids? did they end up being alright? i guess that i didnt like how she took some questions away. it is always on the back of my mind when someone brings up the books. it just makes me wonder.
I love this series! Its one of the best I ever read!In the end I would could change Finnick and Prim's death. Because Finnick was really one of the best characters and just amazing. His death was just plain cruel! Prim should have lived becasue the whole point for Katniss going into the games in the first place was to keep her alive. Whats was the point if Prim was going to die anyway.
I agree with what some of you were saying. I didn't like the ending to Mockingjay. I felt that all that all the characters got sad endings. I like that Peeta and Katniss ended up together but....... I don't know I just didn't like the ending!
I wouldn't change a single thing with these books. Everything happened for a reason. Prim and Finnick died because they made the cause more personal for Katniss as well as everyone reading the book, it made the Capitol just that more hate-able.
Katniss' choice in the end of the 3rd book to use the Capitol's children in a new hunger games was just a tad bit cruel, but there are 3 books worth of reason why she would want something that blood thirsty. These people have been putting up others children for slaughter for years and have killed a lot of her friends and family. She just wanted them to understand what she was forced to go through. Cruel and a little wrong, maybe, but her choice fits her character. Just because it may not fit most of our ideas of a just punishment doesn't mean that it isn't the one her character would definitely choose. That's just the way Katniss is.
I loved Cinna sooooo much but his death was needed too. It kind of spurred Katniss on to lead the rebellion and showed how far the Capitol would go to stop her.
I love love lovee the Hunger Games. It was so beautifully written. I wouldn't change a thing.
Oh and I think Coin getting shot was perfect. She was annoying to me. A lot of you guys seem like you wish NO ONE had died. The series would be soooo boring if Susan had done that. Nope. They had to die.

i love how you said that wiht the capitol's children because i thought the same thing. when people read that part, i think they are reading it as themselves in our time, instead of katniss in her time... I agree though, it shouldnt change. It was beyound amazing :)

I loved Prim, but i think she needed to die in order for Peeta and Katniss to be together. Plus, i think it gave Katniss the over all need to stop the hunger games. I love how she did the hunger games to save Prim, when in the end, she ended up dying. It still makes me wanna cry :....(need some imput on my new writing. Would love yalls opinion. Hope to get some :)

Completely agree. They had to die, unfortunately. I, too, would not change anything.
As cliche as I can tell it is going to be, I wouldn't change anything. I would just augment the epilogue and make it more in depth and less like an essay you wrote for class 2 hours before it is due. I think that everything that happens in the story, especially all the deaths, reveals how ruthless the Capitol is and reaffirms Katniss in her resolve to fight. The hardships in the story, I think, are meant to wear you down just like they do Katniss. I felt exhausted and drained after reading it and having felt so close to the characters I shared in her pain, which I think is what Collins was aiming for. I don't agree with the fact that this is the worst book. You just get the perspective from Katniss as the new person she is. She has been through so much and what person wouldn't become surly and moody. I think the way Collins writes is in line with who Katniss is at that point. Whether you like it or not, it cannot be argued that Katniss has changed. Although I wouldn't change anything, my least favorite death was Finnick. He became so much more real and lovable after divulging how he was "paid in secrets"...one of my favorite parts.
I completely agree. The story made you feel like you experienced war, you were there. The hallowness and emptness you feel. And so I wouldn't change anything either. I really think S.C. captured the experience.

5.) President Snow Choking To Death (He should have been killed properly- an arrow straight through the heart)
6.) Katniss Being Restricted To District 12
7.) Gale's Moving to District 2
8.) District 13 Rescuing Peeta and Enobaria From the Capitol
9.) Johanna Being Tortured
10.) Cinna's Death
There are a lot more, but i dont feel like typing them all.
