Ruby Tombstone Lives! (rubytombstone) I've been going through my To-Read shelf as I've ordering books, and in the last two days I've noticed multiples of the same book. I haven't added them multiple times - they even show the same number, representing the order in which they were selected. When I click "find duplicates" it says there aren't any.

This only seems to affect books in the To-Read view (not All-Books).

I can't give you an example because it changes every time the books load. It loads the correct number of total books (but some are there multiple times, and others don't show at all). My ordering system is set to random.

Ruby Tombstone Lives! (rubytombstone) Helllloooooo? Please help! ;)

Sandra | 31418 comments I had a look a little while ago and I couldn't see any duplicates.

When you see the duplicates, is it the same edition or a different one?

No idea why it would do this.

Have you reported it to the Feedback group? That would be the best place as the programmers look there rather than here, though probably not till Monday.

Random (rand0m1s) | 56 comments Do you perchance have your To-read shelf sorted by format and set to infinite scroll?

I have mine sorted that way. It seems when you hit the bottom and infinite scroll causes it to expand, I suspect its replacing one book with a copy of one which has already scrolled past. Its not messing with the shelf itself, just the visual display of the list. I can count the number of books in my shelf and its exact with what it should be. If I sort by a field other than Format, the duplicates do not happen, and again the count will be correct.

When the duplicates show up they are the exact same edition. If I set one of my other shelves that way (such as read) and also show ratings, the duplicates will be unrated although they are the exact same edition.

I only see this happen if the shelf is sorted by format.

Goodreads staff mostly doesn't work on weekends and this is the librarians group. You should probably post in feedback or email support.

Ruby Tombstone Lives! (rubytombstone) Deborah & Others - When I post to the Feedback group, I am asked to post here instead.

As I said above, I have my books sorted to "random". It's very obvious to see the duplicates, and it does it every single time the page loads. They are NOT actual duplicates. It is just showing the same books several times.

There's nothing librarians can do to help, we can only fix data.

Probably most people don't use the random sort, have you tried other sorts? Are you using infinite scroll?

When no one else is reporting the same issue, it's usually more effective to just email support.

Can you link the books? Also, if you show the column for ISBN, are the duplicate editions have the same ISBN?

Also, when did you post in the Feedback group? I don't see anything related to this in your comments in the Feedback group.

Random (rand0m1s) | 56 comments I didn't see the post in feedback either, and its a subject I would pay a lot of attention to since it affects my to-read and wish-list shelves.

BTW - I did a test and it also happens for me when the sort is set to Random (as well as sorting by format).

Vicky: the ISBN (and ISBN13) are the same in my case. and the duplicate always replaces some other book in the shelf.

This is not a Librarian issue but is instead a bug.

Note - I created a topic in feedback for this and emailed support back in August when I first ran across it.

Vicky (librovert) | 2462 comments Out of curiosity, have you cleared your cache lately? Old cached data causes all kinds of weird problems, it might fix it.

Random (rand0m1s) | 56 comments I have. I can reproduce the behavior on multiple machines, multiple operating systems, and multiple browsers. Even done so using clean VMs here at work.
